Photo Scavenger Hunt - October 2011

Well, I have 12 photos ....

.... but one was taken last year ....

.... and I think I was the only person not to capture, or even see, a proper sunset this year.

As usual, many thanks to Kathy at Postcards from the PP for organising the scavenger hunt.

graffiti
I can't believe it was so difficult to find some
grafitti - it used to be absolutely
everywhere.  Found this near the park.

luckily Tinkerbell's halloween costume
solved this one for me

candlelit
I struggled with this one ... I couldn't get
a decent photo and chose this as the best
from about 25 attempts

fog/mist
I only just managed to get this one. Taken on the only foggy
day in the month, it cleared about 15 minutes after I'd taken this

26 Week Photo Challenge

Yep, it's another challenge ... but with a difference.  This one is organised by Karen over at Me, My Camera, Eye and this challenge has a new theme every two weeks.  The difference is that other participants will offer constructive critisism of your photos and you in turn will provide constructive critisism of the other's photos.

I like the idea of the constructive critisism - makes it seem more like a camera club with the support I need to help me improve my photography.  I'm definitely in, although I have to admit that on first glance, some of the themes look really hard.

It starts today and the first theme is 'Backyard'.  Participant have to take a minimum of 14 photos during the two week period, then post the first one they took, the last one they took and their best/favourite one.

Full details are on Karen's site if you'd like to join in.  I hope some of you do, as it would be lovely to do it together.

Slim Down Sunday 13

Goal: To change my lifestyle and in doing so, lose weight and increase fitness.

Pounds lost: I don't know - I'm not weighing. I've now lost approx. 2 inches from my measurements since I started.

How it's gone this week: Much the same as last week - pot luck meals and resting.  The visit to the doctor was a waste of time and I now need to make another appointment to see my own doctor on his return from his holiday.

I have been looking into the 400 calorie meals and think that this is something that will work and will benefit me.

Plan for this week: My aim is to continue with plenty of fluids, calories in/out balance and start some exercise. I hope to start introducing the 4 x 400 calorie daily meal plans but won't be able to do this exclusively as the freezer contains meals that don't fit into this plan.

To see how others are getting on, or to join in yourself, visit Slim Down Sunday at this site.

The Simple Woman's Daybook - 29 October 2011

FOR TODAY - Saturday, 29th October 2011, 20:45pm

Outside my window... it is dark. It's been a cold, but very sunny day.

I am thinking... about some unexpected news I heard this afternoon.

I am thankful... for painkillers.

I am learning ... nothing this week.  Photoshop has defeated me for the time being so I'm taking a break from it.

In the kitchen... it's all tidied away ready to start again tomorrow.

I am wearing... t shirt, skirt and cardigan.

I am creating... lots more photos.

I am going... to visit my friend tomorrow.

I am wondering... about nothing in particular.

I am reading... 'Never Look Away' by Linwood Barclay.

I am hoping... that my friend is coping with all the family problems that seem to have landed on her shoulders.

I am looking forward to... seeing my sister now she's back from her holiday.

I am hearing... the TV. Ced is watching a repeat of 'Not the Nine o'Clock News'.

Around the house... it's time for a tidy up and I need to hoover.

I am pondering... nothing. I'm still trying to live 'in the moment' and not dwell on what the future holds.

One of my favorite things... being warm and cosy at home when it's pouring with rain outside.

A few plans for the rest of the week: family visiting on Tuesday and Wednesday. Teaching Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.  Catching up with family and friends.

Here is a thought I am sharing ...

3 in 30 Challenge - October 2011, week 4

Well only one goal has been achieved. The other two will have to be revisited some time in the future when I'm feeling better.

Goal 1 - Personal [1]: I need to sort out a practical routine which ensures that I make best use of my time so that everything I need, or want to do, gets done.
Week 1 update: I have an idea how I want to organise my time and I'm putting it to the test for the rest of the month. I've drafted 2 routines: 1 for term time and 1 for school holidays. With half term starting on the 19 October I'll have the opportunity to see if both routines are workable.
Week 2 update: This has worked in part but as it hasn't been 'normal' working week because of illness it is too early to say that the proposed routine is working. Half-term starts next week so this goal will have to run on into November.
Week 3 update: I've no hope of really sorting out a routine with how I'm feeling so this goal will be revisited in November.
Week 4 update: This is a definite fail.  I haven't managed to sort out my routines so will have to try again at a later date.

Goal 2 - Personal [2]: I reviewed the current budget last month and now want to put in place short, medium and long term financial plans.
Week 1 update: I have sent various letters and am waiting for the replies before I get started on my short-term plan - to be completely debt free within [timescale dependant on the replies to my letters].
Week 2 update: I'm still waiting for replies to the letters. I have decided on the plans, it is just the timescales to sort out.
Week 3 update: Well this one is under way and my short-term plan is in place. Still waiting on a reply to one of my letters so I don't have a revised timescale - well I know when repayment of this final loan is scheduled for but I plan to pay it off a lot earlier. The medium and long term plans are decided and will be put into effect when the short term plan is complete. I now want to revisit the current budget to see where savings can be made. This is one of my proposed goals for November but I'm making a start on it now, in particular the amount of money spent on food.
Week 4 update: I'm counting this as my only success for this month.  The plans are determined and working on the short-term plan towards being completely debt free.

Goal 3 - Home: It's time for some more decluttering. We are still trying to sort out the extra stuff that we couldn't find room for when we combined our two houses into a joint property. I have a busy month so I'll be realistic and aim to sort out 5 boxes.
Week 1 update: I haven't started on this one yet as it is something I plan to do during half term.
Week 2 update: I'll start on this one next week. Half-term starts on the 19th.
Week 3 update: Hope to get going on this one next week but depends on the outcome of the doctor's appointment.
Week 4 update: Another complete fail.  I haven't done any work on this one at all.

Now to decide on my goals for November.

Farleigh Castle

After a foggy start it turned out to be a lovely sunny day so I took myself off to Farleigh Castle (about 3 miles away) to take some photographs. Hope you like them.
