I'm Confused ...

... so I'm hoping one of you clever people can clarify things for me.

I've been reading back through posts I missed on other blogs and everyone seems so have posted about the changes in reading blogs and about joining Bloglovin.  Did I miss something really important?  Is there something I need to do to make sure that my blog can still be seen and read?

Answers on a postcard please, to ...

Let's Sit and Have a Cup of Tea

Every month, Abi of Creating Paper Dreams, hosts a link-up where people can sit and chat over a cup of tea:

It's rather a grey day so we'll sit in the dining room but I'll leave the French doors open so that there will be a bit of a breeze. After the greetings and introductions you'll all squeeze around the table (not much room with all the packing boxes piled up in the corner!) and I'll put the kettle on to boil.  Some of you will choose tea and some of you will opt for coffee - that's fine, I'm a coffee drinker myself - and I'll breathe a sigh of relief that I remembered to get some milk. I'll put some nibbles out - today there will be homemade shortbread and chocolate brownies.

Drinks ready, I'll join you at the table.  It will look a bit of a mess as I haven't found the milk jug and sugar bowl yet, but you're all friends so it doesn't matter.  We'll catch up on everyone's news, commiserate with the downs and disasters, celebrate the highs and successes and laugh at the things the children in our lives have said or done.

Then I'll ask you all for suggestions on what to do with the garden.  I'll tell you that I've always wanted a courtyard garden and if this is to be my 'forever home', then now is the time to get on and do it.  The gardeners amongst you will share ideas on the hard landscaping and the planting and we'll talk about having colour and interest all year round and I'll feel more positive about it.

I'll put the kettle back on and make some more drinks. I've tried a new brownies recipe this time so opinions will be sought and given; it's a keeper! I'll realise that I should have made more so I'll place what's left of yesterday's lemon meringue pie on the table. Soon gone! The conversation will turn to crafts and we'll all share an update on our latest projects.  Some of you will share your latest photographs and we'll ooh and aah at the fabulous images.

All too soon it'll be time to go our separate ways so diaries will be updated and we'll agree to meet again next month.

(Another) Lazy Sunday

I didn't have a good start to the day.  I'd planned to drive over to photograph the Wilton Windmill for the summer scavenger hunt but I overslept, woke up with a headache and what seems to be the start of a cold and to cap it all, it is pouring with rain.  So a change of plan is in order.

A day at home is on the cards.  No chores!  No rushing about shopping! Just a few phone calls to friends, update the blog, a couple of letters to write and catch up with long-distant friends, listen to some music and read a good book.  All activities to be supported by mugs of coffee and good food! Much like the Sundays of my childhood when the shops didn't open and it really was a day of rest to recharge the batteries.

I suppose I'm lucky that I enjoy my own company.  Until recently I haven't been able to concentrate properly so reading has been out of the question.  Luckily, I've turned a corner with that problem and am now able to settle down again and lose myself in a story.  I'm currently on the final book of the Steig Larsson 'Millenium' trilogy ('The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', 'The Girl who Played with Fire' and 'The Girl who Kicked the Hornet's Nest') and I'm really enjoying them.  If any of you have any suggestions for what to read next, I'd really appreciate it.

I'm slowly rebuilding a social life!  I was already teaching at the local youth band but when it restarts in September I will also be playing with the more advanced players so that is Saturdays taken care of.  At the end of last term I joined a recorder group which meets late on Tuesday afternoons and that restarts in September as well, and for Wednesday evenings I am going to try a choral group which meets in Bradford on Avon (about 4 miles away).  I'd quite like to find a more physical activity but don't really know what ... maybe the ramblers or one of the many walking groups.  There is a 'photo walk' group which meets once a month in Bath which I have also joined but haven't been able to get to yet, so I'm trying to arrange my diary in the hope that I can get along to their next event.  I'm also getting back into meeting with friends for lunch once a week and have started having family and friends round for meals in.

I discovered the City Hall in Salisbury (about 30 miles easy drive away) which has loads of good events on.  What particularly appealed was the chance to see some well known comedians - so far I've been to see Jason Manford (with Lauren), and have booked tickets to see Sandie Toksvig (going on my own) and Ed Byrne (going with Laura, my niece).  I've also started going to the cinema again which is something I'd always enjoyed but Ced wasn't too keen on.  I took Tinks and Tweenie to see 'Despicable Me 2' and 'Monsters University' (their choices, but fun films which I enjoyed) and am going again in the next week or two with Julie and Lauren but we haven't yet decided what to see.

Also planned are some daytime card making workshops (on my own), Quiz and Curry Night at the local pub with Julie and Lauren, 'Fiddler on the Roof' at the Little Theatre in Bath (on my own) and a one-day cookery workshop to learn about Thai cooking (on my own).

On the back burner I still have the photography course to complete but I don't feel ready to start it yet.  I need to get everything unpacked and my hobby room sorted before I can consider restarting that.  I do however want to get back in the habit of using my camera regularly, if not daily.  Any ideas on how I can do that will also be much appreciated.  I know Joy has organised 'Picture This' on Facebook so that is one thing I can do but am looking for even more inspiration. Maybe it's just an excuse and I'm being lazy!!

I'm off now to curl up on the sofa with a cup of coffee and my book.  Enjoy your day everyone and hope the weather isn't too bad where you are.

New Beginnings

Not sure if anyone is still reading this blog after all this time, but here goes ....

I finally completed on my new home on August 1st and then had the frustration of waiting to get my furniture out of storage, which didn't happen until the 13th.  I then spent a few days unpacking essentials (well the things I could find, anyway!) and actually moved in on Sunday 18th.

Here are some pics, taken on completion day.

Smallest bedroom - the 'sleepover room'!

I've managed to sort the living room, kitchen, dining room and master bedroom so that they look presentable and give me somewhere to relax.  The study and the other two bedrooms are piled high with boxes that still have to be opened and sorted.  I still have a lot of Ced's things which I have to decide whether to keep, scrap or sell - it'll be a long job so I'm aiming to get it done within the next year and then I'll redecorate and sort out the music and hobbies rooms.

I have the internet again at long last so I'll be round to visit all our blogs over the next few days. I don't have the TV sorted yet (problems with the aerial) so it'll give the chance to write some more posts and catch up with my news.

Hope you're all well.
