The Simple Woman's Daybook - Sunday 1st June 2014

FOR TODAY

Outside my window ... it is a beautiful sunny day ... blue sky, fluffy white clouds and a gentle breeze.

I am thinking ... about what I can photograph for Rinda's summertime photography scavenger hunt and Greenthumb's June scavenger hunt. I'm trying to be more organised and create a set of photos that I'm really happy with - not end up with 'make do' photos because I've run out of time, which is what usually happens!

I am thankful ... for antibiotics! I still have to complete the course of medication but am feeling much, much better already.

In the kitchen ... I still need to do the washing up.  The cupboards are looking a little empty so I'll need to go shopping in the next couple of days.

I am wearing ... blue.  Every item of clothing I'm wearing today is blue!

I am creating ... the end of year reports for all my pupils.

I am going ... to arrange for some quotes to see how much it will cost to complete all the changes I want to make to the house and garden.  I'll then know how much of my wish list I can afford to get done and will be in a better position to prioritise the remainder.

I am wondering ... about a couple of blogs I used to follow which haven't been updated in over a year.  There was no indication that they planned to stopped blogging but they did.  Of course, they are totally within their rights to simply stop blogging but they are just on my mind from time to time and I'm hoping that everything is okay with them.

I am reading ... nothing! I've just finished 'The Shock of the Fall' by Nathan Filer but haven't chosen my next book yet.  Any suggestions?

I am hoping ...  that it isn't going to cost a fortune to repair my flute.  Despite everything I say to my pupils about taking care of the instrument, I dropped mine and it now won't play in the higher registers.  I have to sort something out quickly as I need it for teaching.

I am looking forward to ... the final term of the school year.  I only have five more weeks of teaching left; although the actual term is a lot longer, music lessons will finish early to make time for sports days and school trips, etc. In many ways this is the best part of the year - concerts in the rest of my schools, allowing the children to have free choice (within certain limits!) of the music to be learned in these last few lessons and, weather providing, the chance to hold the lessons outdoors.

I am learning ... to be patient!

Around the house ... I'm still decluttering - it's never ending and I'm slowing down but I'm probably about half way through the task.  I've now reached the stage where the obvious rubbish has been disposed of and I'm in the process of getting stuff ready to sell via eBay and Amazon.  There is still a lot of paperwork to be shredded.

I am pondering ... plans for the summer break from schools.  I want to have enough arranged so that I don't spend too much time on my own.

One of my favourite things ... chatting with a 5 year old, listening to her view of the world.

A few plans for the rest of the week ...
  • Monday - teaching all day
  • Tuesday - shopping in the morning, teaching in the afternoon
  • Wednesday - teaching all day
  • Thursday - housework in the morning, teaching in the afternoon
  • Friday - teaching all day,
  • Saturday - sponsored fun day at band followed by a short concert
  • Sunday - catching up with family

A peek into my day ... pottering about in the garden, some music practice (horn and clarinet), visiting my sister and BIL and a couple of phone calls to friends.

A favourite quote for today ...

"You aren't wealthy until you have something that money can't buy."- Garth Brooks
