100 Happy Days: Day 39

Added a few more dates to my diary - things to look forward to during the long summer holiday from school.

151/365: Jasmine

The flowers on the jasmine have opened up throughout the day.

Sorry it's not in focus - they're tiny and I am not feeling well today so couldn't hold the camera still!

Focus on Life 2014 22/52: In Bloom

There's not much in bloom in the garden at the moment so I've opted for one of the cut flowers currently on display in my living room.

100 Happy Days: Day 38

Live music with She'Koyokh - always happy if there is music!  Will be leaving home in a few minutes to collect Julie - this was her choice, part of our 'expanding our horizons and getting out and doing it' initiative.

May Photo Scavenger Hunt

I haven't completed a photo scavenger hunt for ages ... a quick check and the last time was December 2013 so that probably explains why I found this one so challenging.  Enjoyable but challenging!

Many thanks to Greenthumb for organising it and if you want to see any of the other entries just click here.

L is for Lighthouse. This is the lighthouse at Trevose Head in Cornwall.
It took me ages to find and I eventually arrived at the same time as a sea
mist so only managed some hasty photos before the mist blocked the
entire view
7pm ... well 7 o'clock anyway.  Taken at a festival in Lostwithiel, the stall
holder very kindly changed the time for me to take this photo!

left ... seen on a signpost in Fowey, Cornwall.

gadget ... GPS used for the first time on my recent holiday to Cornwall, it got me there and
back in one piece and, well let's just say there were some interesting routes around my holiday destinations!

puzzle ... one of the puzzles in the Mind Games app on my iPad

letter ... the letter 'Q' - one of the mooring rings
on the quay at Mevagissey
reflection ... taken at Mevagissey
fresh ... a fresh mushroom - I stopped in the middle of cooking my breakfast to take this one!
tiny ... tiny gypsophila flowers, part of the bouquet I
was given by one of my schools.
hidden ... a hidden geocache, tucked away behind
a noticeboard

demolition ... I failed on this one.  This is actually the aftermath of the demolition at my sister's house, which happened when I was on holiday.  You can see the new extension on the left of the photo.
antique ... an antique camera, part of Ced's collection.
I'm not sure that it is old enough to qualify as an antique but
it's the best I could do!

150/365: Clematis

There are loads of flower buds on the clematis.  It won't be long now!

100 Happy Days: Day 37

Sorry, not one of my best photos!  An hour spent playing my flute.

149/365: Petunias

I'm just waiting for the brackets to be fixed up and then the hanging baskets can go outside.

100 Happy Days: Day 36

Cheered up by the simple pleasure of a hot mug of coffee after getting caught in a rain shower.

Weigh In Wednesday [22]

I've lost 1lb this week so only one more to go and then I'm back to my pre-holiday weight.  However, it is half term so I'm not rushing about as much as I usually do but am still eating the same so I'll be very surprised if I manage to lose any more weight this week.  We'll see!

148/365: Hacked!

When I went out yesterday morning, this is what I saw.  Somebody has cut back the shrubs in my front garden and not done a particularly good job of it - it looks awful.  I know it was overhanging the pavement and that it will grow again but I'm upset that the person who did this didn't bother to ask if I wanted it done.  I think it was my neighbours as their hedging has also been trimmed and if it was them, then I'm sure they were only trying to be helpful but it has upset me.  It's difficult to know how to approach it without causing an argument, which I obviously don't want, but I do want people to respect my boundaries and leave my property alone.

I was talking about it with my sister and BIL last night.  I'd planned in the long term to remove this shrub anyway - it is overgrown and blocks the light to the kitchen window, it has been neglected and the area is full of weeds. The plan now is to clear the entire area as soon as possible and replant in such a way that the boundary is clearly identified.  We're thinking of marking the line with a lavender hedge which can continue along the front of the house under the windows and then infill with a combination of white and blue/purple flowering plants and bulbs.  Thinking of having one larger specimen plant but need to make sure I get one of the non-invasive varieties.  I'm looking for a white flowering shrub, no more that 2.5m x 2.5m maximum size, that keeps a good shape and doesn't send out runners or reseed itself, requires minimum pruning. This area gets the morning sun.  Any ideas, please?

100 Happy Days: Day 35

I'm doing the Telegraph crossword again.  We used to do it every day but stopped as Ced's illness progressed - lack of time and energy.  I hadn't realised just how much I missed the daily challenge.  This is one I pulled from the recycling pile because I spilled coffee on today's newspaper and it didn't make for a good photo!

147/365: Pieris (2nd variety)

This variety of pieris has now faded from this, to this, to the yellowy green leaves seen above.

146/365: Pieris

Still loving the colour of the pieris leaves.

100 Happy Days: Day 34

Out of the blue - a phone call from a long lost friend.  We used to work together and I haven't seen or spoken to her for about ten years.  We're meeting up for a long chat one evening next week.

145/365: Courtesy of the Neighbours!

Yet another photo of my neighbour's plants!  I can see these through the French doors in my living room; I was looking at them today and it occurred to me that all of the plants I have chosen so far have small flowers - I need to look for a few plants that have larger, more 'showy' blooms.

100 Happy Days: Day 33

Enjoying the view!

100 Happy Days: Day 32

It's cold and wet outside, raining constantly all day so far.  I'm warm and cosy, tucked up inside and reading a good book.

144/365: Jasminum Parkeri

Plenty of new growth on the dwarf jasmine.

100 Happy Days: Day 31

The music concert was repeated this afternoon in front of the rest of the school.  They surprised me at the end of the concert by presenting me with this bouquet of flowers to say thank you.

143/365:Euonymus

The euonymus is looking much healthier after re-potting and a few days of watering.  It's still looking ragged in places but I'm now sure that it will survive.

100 Happy Days: Day 30

The new rugby club was built on the site of my favourite poppy field.  I drove out that way today and was happy to see that the poppies are still there, growing on the newly created banks and verges.  It's looking good!

142/365: Pinks

Still a few pinks flowering.

100 Happy Days: Day 29

Walking through the park, I stopped at the pond to watch the ducks!

141/365: Mossy Saxifrage

Enjoying the last few 'Peter Pan' flowers.

Weigh In Wednesday [21]

I was reluctant to step on the scales after a week long holiday enjoying myself and eating all the wrong, fattening things.  I got a rather pleasant surprise when I did weigh myself - I've put on some weight (which I was expecting) but only a 2 lbs. gain (which I wasn't expecting)!  Now that I'm home and back in my routine it won't take long to lose that small gain.

100 Happy Days: Day 28

It was the annual music concert in one of my schools.  After all the stress and frustrations of organising it, tonight has been amazing; so happy to watch them perform and celebrate their achievements in front of their family and friends.

140/365: Peeping Over the Fence

Another of my neighbour's plants which is now visible above the dividing fence.  I'd be very happy for this one to creep over onto my side!

100 Happy Days: Day 26

A day trip to Exbury Gardens.

138/352: Euonymus

The euonymus is looking very battered.  When I got back home from Cornwall it was out of its pot with the roots exposed.  I don't know what happened but I re-potted and watered it in and crossed my fingers.  I've been out all day today and when I got home it was out of the pot again.  There hasn't been any wind today so I don't know what has happened but the plant is definitely not happy and some of the leaves have died/are dying.  Hoping I don't lose it!

137/365: Dandelion Clock

Sorry, it's not perfectly in focus- the dandelions have tried to reclaim a corner of the garden in my absence!

100 Happy Days: Day 25

Happy to be back home after a lovely week in Cornwall.  The garden has suffered a bit in my absence and will need some loving attention over the next week or so.

Focus on Life 2014 20/52: About the Ground

Taken at Charlestown in Cornwall, a small pool of seawater left by the disappearing tide.

100 Happy Days: Day 24

I went paddling in the sea at Pentewan beach.  It was freezing, but fun!

136/365: Holiday Day 7

Taken at the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

100 Happy Days: Day 23

It has been an emotional, but happy, day and I felt very close to my mum.  Her mum died when she was eleven years old and the five children, my mum being the eldest, were split up and sent to different orphanages.  Mum was sent to an orphanage in Truro which was run by nuns.  Every week they were taken to worship in Truro Cathedral and mum always spoke about looking up to the windows set high up in the walls, touching the roof.

135/365: Holiday Day 6

I treated myself to a full English breakfast in Truro today and this flower was on the table.

100 Happy Days: Day 22

I spent a very pleasant hour sitting in the sunshine on Par beach, reading and eating a late lunch.

134/365: Holiday Day 5

Taken today on the walk down to Par beach.
