111/365: R is for ... the Robin Mug

So far this year my decluttering efforts have been focused on the things I want to get rid of.  All very necessary as there is so much that needs to go, but this month I'm having a bit of a change and will be looking at the special items I want to keep.

Mum loved robins, so there have always been robins as part of our Christmas celebrations. This mug was part of the last Christmas present I gave her the year before she passed away and now I've kept it to be my Christmas mug.  It can only to be used between Christmas Eve and Twelfth Night - that's the family rule for Christmas things.

  1. I love rules like that because it maintains the magic and specialness. Chirstmas cards posted on December 1st. The decorations begin with the advent calender and it used to be that the tree would be put up on Christmas Eve as this was my family tradition. Mr Ms family was of the put-everything-up-as-early-as-possible school so that's what happens now. I am just glad that 12th night brings it all down again without argument

    1. We don't decorate or put the tree up until Christmas Eve. As children we didn't have Advent calendars but I do have one now, but I always make my own, not one of the chocolate treats sort from the shop.

  2. I like that rule about Christmas things; it makes them special for that season. What a sweet robin mug! I'm sure when you use it you think and remember fondly Christmas celebrations in the past with your mom :)

  3. Amen to that! Christmas starts for me on 24/25th - having it all around from early November is so tiresome. And the radio stops playing Christmas music right after 25th - I'm not surprised everyone's had enough by then! I usually aim to put my tree/decs up the weekend before Christmas however inevitably it ends up being Christmas Eve, but that does feel special in its own way. We observe Twelfth Night on 6/1 - family dinner then everything taken down by midnight.
