A Snow Day

It's frustrating that I can't go out to take some snow photos but I'm being sensible and it's simply not worth the risk to my knee. This one was taken through the doors in the living room and is probably all I'm going to manage for now as the whiteness makes my eye hurt.

My neighbour has very kindly cleared the front of my house and all around my car for me, not that I plan to go out. All the Wiltshire schools are closed, we've cancelled tomorrow's band practice and I've plenty of food in the house so I have no need to venture out before Monday at the earliest and only then if the schools are back.

I'm not feeling full of energy today so it's going to be a quiet day at best, probably just  getting on with a bit of paperwork and filing. I kept the heating on overnight (just turned the temperature down a bit) so the house is warm and I don't have the problems of the condensate pipe from the boiler freezing that lots of people are reporting on Facebook. I've rearranged my holidays and, instead of the two planned photography holidays, will now be going to the Peak District (in August) and to the Isle of Wight (in September) instead.

I've just looked out the window - the local kids knocked on my door earlier to ask if they could have my snow 😊 but have now abandoned their efforts to build snowmen (not the right sort of snow apparently!) and have cobbled together some sleds so are racing up and down the close. It's good to see them out enjoying it.

  1. How lovely of them to ask for 'your snow'. Bless them!
I've had condensate issues. It's no big deal as long as you can get out with hot water to pour over it and then try it reignite the boiler. Today I'm doing a hot water run every two or three hours as a preventative thing so fingers crossed. Not that it will help overnight, of course, but we will see.

    1. Luckily my boiler is in the kitchen and the condensate pipe drains into the waste water pipe under the sink, so I shouldn't have any problems with it freezing.

  2. Your photo is very reflective of the now. We had warnings for 15-20cm of snow last night, but when I woke this morning, a dusting only (thankful). Stay warm & safe inside. Yes snow has to be just a tad wet to make for good packing snow to build snow people or snow balls for a full on snow ball fight.

    1. We don't get snow in this area very often, and when it does it's never too deep. It's supposed to freeze again tonight so the roads will be lethal tomorrow. I think this area is still on amber alert and quite a few of the roads are closed so we're all being told to stay at home and only make journeys that are absolutely essential.

  3. I feel for you, being unable to get out among the flakes, but you're doing the right thing. We had more yesterday than we were meant to get, and even more today, when none was forecast (or not till the eleventh hour!). Roads/traffic were/was horrible coming home - though I am sure they were gritted. Besides my brakes were juddering so I think something may be frozen - at least I hope that was all it was. Bit hairy. :o(
Really cute about the kids asking to use "your" snow. I must admit I'm always sad to see mine spoiled ... although I'd always gladly donate it for recreational use!

    1. I didn't let them in the back garden so that's pristine ... may try some photos tomorrow. We've had some more snow this afternoon as well so I'm glad I don't have to drive in it. It sounds like you had a scary drive home so pleased to hear that you got there safely in the end.
