Thursday

I'm not quite sure what to do with these but they will definitely be leaving the house. They are wind band arrangements but don't have enough suitable parts for the youth band to use.  I'll probably end up taking them to the Oxfam charity shop as I know they send all music donations on to their specialist music stores.

I treated myself again yesterday, this time to something I've wanted for ages but could never justify the expenditure. I saw an advert selling secondhand audio CDs of Steven Fry reading the Harry Potter books so I've bought them. Only the first three books were advertised so I snapped them up at £5 a book and went to collect them. I won't listen to them for a while as I'm in the middle of re-watching the film's on TV, so it's something to look forward to during the long winter days when it's too cold to venture out. The seller thinks she may have the rest of the audio books to complete the series and has agreed to contact me when she finds them.

I called in Aldi on the way home to pick up some more of the things I bought and have enjoyed, so I now have a supply in the freezer.

I don't know what else I'll be doing today. I have a doctor's appointment on July 10th and have decided to keep taking it easy until then. However ... I feel that I need to make some decisions on how to occupy my days as at the moment I am just drifting and don't like it ... too much time wasted and not enough getting done. I think there may be quite a bit of list making today!

  1. I used to have the Stepehn Fry recordings on cassette, they are lovely and I hope you are able to get the rest.

    1. I can remember listening to Stephen Fry reading the entire first book on the radio one Christmas and it's stuck with me ever since.

  2. I am glad you treated yourself to the audio books. Maybe consider yourself to be in vacation mode until your next doctor's appointment? Play with your new calligraphy set? Catch up on reading and naps? Work on your genealogy research? Have a spa day or two?

  3. You got a great deal on the CDs. I got some for bear, and I thought I had got a steal for the first three books for, I think it was, @ £20. The Book People are on TopCashBack and sometimes have audio books. Sending hugs

    1. I'm hoping the seller does find the rest of the audio books because it's going to be an expensive job to get the rest of the series. The Book People have the next 2 but I'm waiting to see what my seller comes up with.

  4. What a lovely treat.
I know what you mean about 'drifting'. It's good to take tbings easy and go with the flow but one does need some structure. Is there any crafting you are particularly interested in?

    1. I have plans for sewing and quilting. Also the calligraphy, reading, family tree research, piano and brass playing, and of course the photography. I have plenty to interest me and keep me occupied but it seems that if I don't plan I let the day pass without doing anything much. I don't know if this is to do with feeling unwell, an age thing, or just an sign that I need to get my act together now that I am aware if it!

  5. Yeah to getting those first 3 audio HP books. I've heard (no pun) that Stephen's readings of the books is incredible although I've not listened to any myself. There is a season for everything; Just think of yourself in the resting season, although I don't think you aren't accomplishing lots with getting your books sorted & sorting through the family tree.

    1. I've wanted the audio books ever since we heard Stephen Fry reading the first one on the radio at Christmas.

I suppose I am feeling frustrated that I am so near the end of the massive decluttering exercise and don't feel well enough, not have the energy to complete it. The same applies to the garden ... so near, but ...

  6. It's been a while since I have visited blog posts Eileen, so good to catch up. I hope someone else enjoys your wind band arrangements. It's always fascinating what turns up in charity shops. I subscribed to Audiobooks as I wanted Michele Obama's book and I could download it for free as part of a 30 day free trial. Needless to say four months on I have yet to cancel it and to order 3 new books. That is for my to do list.
Like you I sometimes feel some days are spent drifting, and I know I certainly get distracted when there are things that deserve attention and I want to avoid them! I have enjoyed getting into the garden this year and now we are rehoming our fish and redesigning the pond area we will have more space and opportunity to do other things with it. I'm looking forward to that.

    1. That's why I've avoided signing up for Audible - I'd be exactly the same. Have fun redesigning your garden now the fish have gone to play in the pond in the public garden. Please can we have before and after photos?
