Gardening Day!

The highlight of today will be Danielle's visit to work her magic in the garden. Based on how much she achieved last time I think things will look very different by the time she finishes for the day. She'll be continuing with the weeding and clearing so it should be back to looking neat and tidy again.

I didn't make it to the White Horse or to Corsham yesterday. I'd decided on the White Horse but, checking a local site before I left home, there were reports that it looked like travellers were setting up camp so I decided to avoid the area. Instead I just went for a drive round, which gave me plenty of different sights to enjoy and definitely raised my spirits. It now seems that the report was incorrect so the White Horse is back on the list for later in the week.

The new arrangements for people in England who are shielding were announced yesterday. If I understand them correctly, from July 6th it seems I can follow the same relaxing of restrictions as the rest of the population and, as an adult living alone, I can also form a bubble group with another household. I don't plan to make any changes immediately and will carry on as I am now with the added mood busters of the occasional trip/walk locally. I want to wait and see what changes the next review brings for the people who have not been shielding as those changes will affect whatever decisions I make for myself.

  1. It really does all repent on what everyone else is doing for me too. I'm inviting friends to distanced chats in the garden (I have three organised for this week already) and I'm a family bubble with Dad, Beth and Alex. I'm beginning to feel the pull to shop which is daft because there's nothing I need that I can't get online.

I think I'm almost as excited about your garden as you are. Is she doing a couple of hours at a time? :-)

    2. I'm hoping to be able to meet with a couple of my friends for a distanced chat occasionally but other, much closer, friends will have to wait - from conversations it seems they are ignoring the govt. advice based on quite dangerous info from one of their other friends who says that you can tell when someone has the virus so social distancing and mask wearing isn't necessary!! I don't want to be on the receiving end of those sort of risks so will stick to phone calls for now.

Danielle is doing a couple of hours once a fortnight. I'm hoping she can fit in a couple of extra sessions at least so some of the new planting can happen this autumn. Once the garden is up together she may change to a monthly maintenance visit.

  2. I think taking the wait & see approach is a wise approach. So many people think the relaxation of the shelter in place rules means the virus is gone. South Korea, who had done SO well in controlling the spread seems to be having a second wave already. I've had two outside, 2 metres apart meet up with friends, but I do just 1 a week & I met with friends that having been following the rules.

Seems in spite of good medical information available, people want to believe the silliest of info. Garden before & after photos??

    1. Yes, there will be before and after photos!

I'm taking baby steps towards relaxing restrictions for myself. We don't have access to information which tells the R rate in each area and the govt are only reporting on the hospital cases and testing results which don't accurately reflect the true number of cases in the country.

  3. I think you were wise to just go for a drive, yesterday. You still have plenty of time to visit the spots you wanted to visit.

I also think it is wise of you to wait and see before venturing out to meet with others. No, you really can't tell who is having the virus, as some people can have it and still not have any symptoms!

Hope Danielle will be able to make lots of progress with the weeding, etc., during her visit, today. Looking forward to the before and after photos. :) Hope you are having a good day, Eileen. Take care.

    1. I'm keeping away from people for a while longer, until I feel safe about mixing. When I do feel ready to mix, I will be very selective and stick to a fairly small group.

Danielle was brilliant today - I've scheduled an update post for tomorrow so you'll be able to see how it's going.

  4. I'm not jumping on the let's-get-out-there bandwagon either. A wait-and-see approach is more what I'm doing.

    1. According to the reports I live in a area with a very low number of cases but even so, I am waiting to see how things progress.

    1. Translation: I hope that everything goes for the best, around there, when the restrictions are eased ... here, we had a very controlled situation ... but in the meantime economic activities have reopened ... and the situation is getting worrying again, with many cases ... and then the summer ... is a temptation for the youngest, to arrange group programs ... and not to comply with the distance rules ...
We can try to get back to our routines ... but without a vaccine ... I believe that this virus will not want to collaborate ... and it will still give us enough to do, everyone, in the coming months ... I wish I was wrong !. ..
To avoid hassles ... I will continue to bet on security measures ... and to avoid agglomerations and travel as much as possible ...
Kisses! Best wishes for everything going on, around!

I agree with you. It's worrying to see so many people behaving as if the battle has been won when the reality is that we are just at the beginning.
