Tuesday

This is supposed to be our last sunny day for a while so I'd like to get out with my camera, even if it's just for a walk along the canal. J & R will be here at 10:30 and G will be here at 15:00, so I have a gap in the middle when I can pretend the housework is finished and take myself off for a jolly!

I spent some time yesterday afternoon trying to take the remaining photos I need for the SPSH which finished at the end if the month. I have two more to find, one I can take in town on Thursday, and one I'm stuck for ideas on. I need to put my thinking cap on!

The news about the rate of infection and the return to level 4 is unsettling. Apart from the new rule of 6 I haven't heard of any additional restrictions yet, but will assume that they will come so I am continuing to prepare for the winter months to avoid going out if that becomes necessary. This situation has forced a change in how and when I buy the supplies I need and I am currently checking that I have enough to see me through so that supermarket deliveries can be used just for foodstuffs.

I think it's also time to stock up on jigsaws, puzzle books and the like, to stop me getting bored. Even if shielding isn't required again, I don't do 'cold' so need to have entertainment at home now we're heading for the coldest part of the year.

  1. It is upsetting and unsettling, especially as people were so happy to have a bit more scope again after lockdown. I'm working on not feeling discouraged.
I'm also casting a look over my supplies - not to buy copious amounts of anything but just to be sensible so there's no worry.
The shows must go on is restarting, isn't it? (I'm not thinking too carefully about the grammar in that last sentence). A bit deja vu!

    1. I've been expecting this but it's still unsettled me. I suppose this is the worst part ... waiting to hear what the new arrangements are for the country. Let's hope everyone sticks to them this time!

Yes, the shows must go on is back on Friday. There's a clue on their YouTube channel to say what the first one is, but I haven't been able to work it out!

  2. We will be told about the new rules today. It's all very strange. I have found that I have learnt a lot about patience and resilience!

    1. Not long to wait until we find out then. I feel quite resigned to whatever has to happen but not looking to a long winter without any social meetings to look forward to.

  3. I think there are restrictions coming again. Our whole province went into reduced personal meetings to try to reduce the number of out of control house parties - 81 AirB&B's were charged on the weekend! There's a COVID news update today at 1pm - probably more restrictions as our numbers are rising quickly. I cannot believe how stupid people are, trying to figure ways around "beating" the rules. Your afternoon jolly does sound like fun. Happy Autumn.

    1. I listened to Boris' speech in Parliament and what's coming in terms of restrictions will not change much for me. I too am surprised at the number of people who are treating it like a game and looking for ways to beat the restrictions.

The afternoon jolly hasn't happened yet (phone calls from friends!) so it may be an early evening walk instead, if it happens at all today. It's getting rather chilly out there!

  4. Glad to read, in your responses to comments, that the new restrictions will not impact you too much. Hope you do get in your evening walk. Enjoy your day.

    1. It started raining so no walk, but I got involved in family history with my cousin this afternoon so probably wouldn't have gone out anyway.

  5. Yes, some people are certainly still not getting it.

I thought there was to be a big new announcement on Friday but it seems yesterday's parliamentary debate has already told us all we need to know. Makes no difference to me as I have not changed my behaviour significantly for weeks - I wonder if it will be enough.

On another note, how do I get the shows must go on? I didn't watch any of the streamed stuff last time and now realise I missed out on quite a lot!

    1. There is a Shows Must Go On YouTube channel. If they follow the same pattern as last time, the new show is released every Friday evening and is only available for 24 or 48 hours, depending on the licencing. This week's offering is 'Fame, The Musical'.

The trouble with the way the changes are announced is that it always seems to be known and picked to bits by the media before the formal announcement. I don't think it will be enough, far from it.

    2. I know what YouTube is, but I don't understand the "channel" part. Is it a special subscription service, or a separate app? Sorry to be a luddite!

    3. No, it's all part of the same thing. In YouTube search for The Shows must Go On. in the search results will be all the videos they have, but also an icon for their channel (just an area where all their videos can be found in one place). When you select the channel from the search results, somewhere on the screen will be a 'subscribe' button. Press that button. Next time you go into YouTube, look in their menu options and one will be 'Subscribe'. Choose that and you will see all the things you have subscribed to.
