Wednesday

I didn't really think through the timing for all the errands yesterday. It was too busy for me - I should have waited and gone out later, probably after lunch, when I think it would have been much quieter. It was also too hot to be outside, but I did get the parcel in the post, filled up with petrol, and made an appointment for the car service! The shopping isn't that urgent and can wait.

The patio is in full sun all afternoon so I spent a bit of time out there moving the empty pots round, but gave up on planting any of the bulbs. Instead, I pottered about in the garage listing items for auction, made the next pile of things to take to the recycling yard when I can book a slot, and carried on tidying the end where all the garden stuff is kept. There's not much more to do out there now. Later on it cooled down enough to be bearable so I got as far as getting a layer of compost in all ten pots and planted one pack of bulbs in the corner of the centre bed. I would have got more done but my neighbour called over to show me the note she'd received from D advising that she needs to work closer to home so is unable to continue maintaining my neighbour's garden ... so we're both looking for a replacement gardener.

I hope to finish off the bulbs this evening, waiting for it to be cooler. I don't have a busy day planned but need to make a couple of important phone calls, so achieving anything else is dependent on getting those done first. Once they're done I can carry on with photographing some more of the auction stuff and then settle down to read in the cool of the living room.

  1. You got quite a bit done, yesterday; hope you can get the rest done another day. Glad to hear the cold is actually more allergies than a cold. Too bad about Danielle, but, hopefully, you and your neighbor will find a good replacement gardener. Hope the weather cools off and you can get all your bulbs planted. Hope the phone calls go well, too. Have a lovely day, Eileen.

    1. I think this is the hottest day and then it is supposed to cool off a bit, so I may leave the rest of the bulbs until tomorrow.

I have no sign of the sniffles this morning so it's definitely an allergy, which is good news.

I'll try to complete the errands tomorrow or Friday and I'll go in the afternoon when it should be quieter - I don't want to leave it too long as I want to stock up on some tinned and dry goods for the winter months. The infection rate is rising very quickly so I wouldn't be surprised to be dealing with another lockdown situation if this rule of 6 restriction doesn't work out.

  2. Well some of the mystery of the disappearing Danielle is solved ... did you get a similar text? Sounds like the garage project is working through quickly and as planned. As our overnight temperatures are dropping like a stone, I'll be spending the next few days emptying pots of annuals & dirt (I use the dirt in the pots to hill up my roses as part of their winter protection). You remind I need to get a few more of the SPSH items before wrap up.

    1. No, but then I had already stopped employing her.

It occurred to me last night that I need to get on and take my final photos for the hunt.

  3. Full sun explains how your flowers do so much better than mine :) I'm sorry Danielle didn't work out and hope y'all soon find a new gardener

    1. I have another lady coming to see the garden next week and am hopeful it'll work out.

The patio is in need of some shade. At the moment it's only used first thing in the morning or early evening when the sun isn't too hot.

  4. I don’t think any of us get much done when it is so warm so you have done well.

    1. It wasn't too bad in the garage as I was out of the sun, and the area I was reorganising didn't involve any bending.
