Tuesday

Well some things got ticked off on yesterday's to-do list. I made some more soups and some chilli, and I cleaned the toilet ... but that's it. I made the mistake of checking the notifications on the family tree when I stopped for coffee and ... just never got started on the housework again!

However, I have now found some of the elusive records I've been searching for for absolutely ages and have now added two more generations to one branch of the family, taking my research back to 1551 with a list of approximately 30 names still to sort out. I am excusing myself from all chores while I sort this out!

You've probably guessed that my plan for today is to completely ignore the housework and carry on with the research, but I will take time out to use up the rest of the root vegetables and cobble together a stew to cook in the slow cooker.

'The Shows Must Go On' Monday release was David Tennant in Richard II, which I've wanted to see since reading the reviews a few years ago, so that will be my Tuesday evening viewing.

  1. It sounds like a richly rewarding day. Housework? What housework? :-)

    1. Haha. The way I look at it is I can do the housework today and it'll still need to be done again in a few day. It'd be a different matter if it stayed done!

  2. Tuesday sounds like a good day with lots of fun things planned. 1551 WOW, that is some family line you have got going there - are you sure I don't figure in some how (lol)?

    1. I was surprised to get back to 1551 which is why I am excited about it. Sorry, I am positive you don't appear anywhere in the tree so far but I haven't done any detailed research on the people who emigrated to the USA and Canada yet.

  3. Hope your day went well. Just popping on to say it is the Fiona Shaw Richard II, not the David Tennant one, don’t want you to be disappointed. I watched it last night and it is excellent, so I think you should enjoy it. David Tennant is on in two weeks, reading sonnets I think, it’s Patrick Stewart next Monday. Good luck with the family tree sleuthing!

    1. I watched it this afternoon. I don't know how I got it in my head that it was the David Tennant version, but never mind. After my initial disappointment I enjoyed it and thought it was excellent. Thanks for letting me know anyway.

The family tree is progressing nicely, thanks. I'm back to 1495 now!

    1. It fascinates me. I've been reading up on British history to give the dates some sort of context by relating them in my head to key events. I'm back to the start of the Tudor dynasty now, which coincidentally is my favourite period in history!

  5. I think housework should definitely take a back seat to researching family history! 1495! Wow! How exciting! I barely know the names of my paternal grandparents! Arthur and ???Juliet??? I should dig out my father's birth certificate to see if it lists his mother's name!

    1. Thank you Bless. I will take your advice and ignore the housework for now 😂
I never though it would be possible to get back this far and it looks like I will get back to the early 1400s once I finish sorting out the jumble of names and dates ... this is my maternal grandmother's family. I wish I'd spoken to my Dad about his grandparents but he never spoke of his parents or older generations and he had died by the time I started getting interested in genealogy.

  6. Good night Eileen,
Housework is a bit tedious, but it serves to be distracting.
You are already well advanced in researching your family tree. Very interesting.
I wish you a good evening watching The show must go on. I think it's on TV, right?
    Hugs,
    Ailime

    1. The Shows Must Go On is a channel on YouTube organised originally by Andrew Lloyd Webber during the first UK lockdown. They release screenings of theatre musical productions on Fridays and are currently showing some Shakespeare plays and readings on Mondays. They ask for a donation for an Arts charity but it is available to watch for free for those who can't or don't want to make a payment.
