Saturday
Another pleasant surprise in the garden ... these have appeared in one of the pots I'd moved to one side to be cleared out. I think I may have to wait and see what else is lurking in the wings before I empty any of the pots!
It's another quiet day at home again. I don't need to do any housework (well, I probably do if I look hard enough!) as J did all the hoovering as part of his clearing up. The internal doors all close properly now and I'm really pleased with the new handles - brushed chrome instead of brass. I just have the last bits of decorating to organise but am dithering about whether to wait a bit or to carry on now and get it all finished. The gloss painting has to be done this time and I always get migraines from the paint, so that's the issue. I have to face it at some stage, it's just a question of whether I'm up to coping with it now.
I'm determined to finish the book group read today and then I can get on to reading something of my own choice. So that's the plan ... do nothing else until I've finished the book - I'm just over half way so have about 200 more pages to go.
What a bonus, beautiful flowers that you weren't expecting. I usually plant new bulbs in containers and after they've flowered I move them into the flowerbeds. Sometimes they'll flower again but other times they don't.
ReplyDeleteI will do bulbs in containers next year but for this year it's a case of 'see what appears!' Hopefully it will stay reasonably mild so I can get out to the garden this week and clear some of the flowerbeds.
DeleteI love being in a book group but do feel it stops me reading a lot of other things. The latest book we are reading is Song of Achilles which I plodded through. Not one I would recommend.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't recommend mine either. We've been really lucky with our choices so far and I've read lots of books that I wouldn't have considered at all if left to my own devices, so from that point of view the book group has stretched my reading choices. However, after a bad one (!) I always want to settle down with my own choice of reading for a while - it's the only thing that's keeping me going to finish this one!
DeleteI stopped using gloss for the same reason. Satin looked nice and no smell. Love the flowers.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn. The doors already have gloss paint on them and because of the (fake) wood grain texture can't be sanded so satin isn't an option for me. It has to be gloss, unfortunately.
DeleteOh buds are always so uplifiting, aren't they. I know what you mean about the smell of the glossy paints, we have a bit of woodwork trim that should have been touched up ages ago, and we can't seem to make ourselves get back to it.
ReplyDeleteI read online that it is possible to buy water based gloss paint rather than the smelly oil based gloss, so I'm going to investigate that as a possible alternative.
DeleteEileen, is there someone who can to do the glossy painting for you and then, maybe spend a couple of days away until the smell goes away? Or, use a different type of paint?
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice surprise! Daffodils! Yes, I'd wait to see what else might be growing before I clean out those pots! :)
I am getting the decorator back to do the rest of the painting but I want to be here when he is working in the house. With medical appointments it's not easy to be away from home at present. I have to stick to gloss paint because that's what was used previously and the wood grain effect on the doors means they can't be prepped properly to allow the use of satin paint instead. There is possibly a water based paint which could do the job but I need to find out more about it.
DeleteWhat a lovely hidden surprise those daffodils are. I cannot abide the smell of paint but oil is the worse. Yes do wait until the windows can be thrown wide open.
ReplyDeleteI have no sense of smell so it's not the actual smell that causes the migraines, there must be some level of fumes that affect me. Now I'm going to be teaching from home I also need to consider that wet paint and young children don't go well together, so the logistics of what can be painted when has to be thought through!
