A Change of Plans
I'd planned a couple of quiet days at home, but a phone call late yesterday evening completely changed my plans for the first half of this week. The builder had a last minute cancellation so was able to fit my job in today and tomorrow ... was I interested? Obviously my answer was "yes", so I'm now having my new inset electric fire fitted well ahead of the proposed date.
Half way through the day it was just looking like a big mess. It's one of those jobs that looks much worst before it gets better (see photo below).
However, he made very good progress today and it's now ready for plastering (see photo below) so I only need to pay for one day's labour costs instead of two for this stage.
All the mortar has to dry now so there's a gap in proceedings until he returns with his friend to plaster the wall, maybe next week, and then possibly another short wait for the plaster to dry before his final visit to install the actual fire and finish off the electrics.
I am very happy to have this part of the work over and done with ... I think today was probably the worst day, with all the noise and dust. I now need to apologise to my poor neighbours as they had to put up with all the noise as well as the windows were open all the time he was working to clear the dust. Even wearing extra layers I've been cold all day and now have a bad headache, so I'll be having an early night. My bed is still in the living room, so I'll be able to watch the television if I want to, and maybe I'll get dinner in bed ... if I can persuade Niall that he want's to do the cooking!

Yah! Good thing it was done early. I bet it's a relief to be taken care of
ReplyDeleteIt is a relief as I wasn't expecting it to be done before May. There's still a wait now as the plasterer is really busy, but all the messy work is over and done with xx
DeleteSending hugs for the cold and dust - but so much further on! It will look so good when it's finished.
ReplyDeleteSadly I didn't get my dinner in bed, but it didn't take long to warm up once the windows were closed. There will be more photos when it's all finished xx
DeleteThat's wonderful that the work could be done sooner rather than later!
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely surprise to get the initial stage completed earlier than expected. I have to look at the schedule now to see if anything else can be brought forward. xx
