Friday

If today goes smoothly, all the plants and some of the bulbs should be in the ground by the end of the afternoon. Danielle's Covid test was thankfully negative and she texted to say she will be here today.

I've also received notification that a parcel will be delivered some time this morning, which I'm hoping is the Italian language course book I ordered. I'm not planning to go out so I'll be able to get on with learning the intricacies of Italian grammar if it is.

This will be my third consecutive day of walking around the house and garden. I've settled on achieving a minimum of 4,000 steps a day for starters, which seems to give a good balance between actually being more active and managing the joint pain. The 4,000 steps are just the ones where I consciously make the effort to walk rather than the steps taken as part of my normal movement around the house. The short term aim is to increase this to 10,000 total steps every day. At present, the 4,000 steps are achieved through several short bursts of activity but by the time I get to realising the 10,000 steps I want to be including a 30 minutes walk every day. I know this is achievable because I have done it before. As with the walking up and down stairs, which is getting easier, there's no time limit in which to achieve this - I'll just be guided by how I feel.

  1. Good luck with the walking and I hope the gardener turns up.

  2. I take it you got the FitBit working again to count those steps (yeah). I have to remember to put my step counter on as I've usually racked up a few steps by the time I remember (col). It will be nice to get those plants & bulbs into the ground & settled. Happy weekend.

    1. Yes, I reset it and it's working fine now. I'd like to think it is still inaccurate with the step tally but I think the truth is that I need to make a bit more effort 😂

Hope you have a good weekend too xx

    1. Thanks Susanne. I think it's going to be a long job, but a little bit every day and I'll see a big improvement.

    1. [Shouts!] NO ... just a message to say she wasn't coming!

    2. Whatever all the reasons have been, the bottom line is that I need someone who is reliable, so I am looking for someone else.

  5. Sounds like you are making good progress with your walking. You are making an effort, at the very least. I am being a couch potato until the air quality improves!

Hope Danielle will be there and the plants and bulbs get planted! Hope you have a lovely day.

    1. I actually managed 5,000 steps today so am feeling a bit smug!

      Danielle didn't turn up!

  6. Reading the comments that Danielle did not show - oh dear, sadly she is proving to be un-reliable. Word will get round quickly & she'll lose her "good name". I shake my head ...

    1. It can't be easy for her, juggling care of her young child with working long hours but I feel it's in my own interest to move on and not have to be understanding of those issues.

  7. Oh, no (re: Danielle). Just when you thought you had found someone really reliable too and bang in the middle of the project. Not good and certainly not satisfactory.
    xx

    1. I'm looking to the future and even if I hadn't drawn the line now, it would have happened at some stage. The new gardener seems promising so I just have to manage things my end for the rest of the month ... assuming she will take on the work once she meets me!
