Friday
I spoke to my GP yesterday and got the reassurance I wanted, which is that it's unlikely that I'm risking further damage to the joint so I can exercise when I want and rest if the pain is too bad. So I went out for a short walk this first thing this morning, just around the village, which cheered up the start of my day.
I've decided that, if I am going to go out and about in the car, I need to be prepared with a face mask and disposable gloves. I don't intend to meet up with anyone or to go where there is a possibility of crowds, but I will need to go to the garage so it's better to have them than not. I don't have any suitable fabric to make my own face mask so have ordered a mask and the gloves online.
The recycling yard is now open but only offering a restricted service. Only one person is allowed in each car and you are only permitted to take things that you cannot dispose of safely at home. I'm not entirely sure what items you can take but the majority of the things I have set aside for disposal can wait safely in the garage until the normal service is resumed. Starting next month I will have a load of garden waste to dispose of so, although I think the recycling yard may accept it, I have decided to pay for the fortnightly kerbside collection for the next year. It works out at less than £1 a week and will be much easier all round. This is another thing I can tick off the list!
We had a good laugh at the quiz last night, ending up with a score of 41 out of 50, one of our best scores so far. It's the choir quiz tonight and I'll watch the Sound of Music afterwards, which is this week's free musical. As for the rest of the day, for the first time in ages I am enjoying curling up and losing myself in a book so that's my plan for the day!

Today's list of things to do:
- physical: knee strengthening exercises, a short walk
- in the fresh air: open the windows to air the house
- around the house: organise freezer food for next week
- achievement: nothing today
- social: blogging, choir quiz
- fun: reading, watch The Sound of Music (stage show)
I wish we had a kerbside collection. I would gladly pay for it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we do - I must check it out.
I'm really glad your GP was able to reassure you and that you have started walking again. It's important.
And thanks for the Sound of Music info - I must look that one up. Is it on You Tube?
xx
I see it is. Great!!

Yes, it's on YouTube as you've found. It seems that there won't be any more ALW shows but a selection of others will continue in the Friday night slot.
DeleteI don't usually pay for the green waste collection as, when the garden is up together, I don't usually have enough to fill the wheelie bin and at one time they would only take full bins. I will definitely have plenty to go in the bin to start with so it's worth the cost to me, and once things settle down I can decide whether I want to continue with it.
Oh - garden waste. I was thinking small electrical items, etc. Must read more carefully! Yes, we have once a fortnight green bin collections. All part of the service and I do appreciate it.
DeleteI'm still going to check re small appliances, etc.
xx
We have a local charity, sort of a repair shop/men's shed who will take small appliances to refurbish or use for spares. It's not a regular collection though.
DeleteAs our recycling centres/tips are few and far between we decided to pay for a kerbside collection of green waste last year. It is only weekly grass cuttings and prunings a couple of times a year, but they were soon mounting up because my husband didn't want to make the trek just for them and would wait until he had other things to go to the tip. He's much happier now, lol.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a lawn so no weekly grass cuttings to fill the bin which was why I hadn't bothered before. It'll definitely be easier for me in the short term while the new gardener gets the garden back under control.
DeleteI'm glad you got the ok to do the exercises. It's good to know you can do them as you feel like it. I'm using masks when I go out but not gloves. I just depend on hand washing and hand sanitizer. These days of being able to open up the house are delightful! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's good news about the exercising, isn't it. I just need to go slowly and not overdo things
DeleteI wanted gloves for the garage because I will need to sort out tyre pressure and eventually will need to fill up with petrol. I avoid the hand sanitizer if at all possible - I used it so often when my late partner was in hospital that the skin on my hands cracked and bled. There were signs that was going to happen this time so I'm sticking to soap and water at home but need something for protection when I'm out, hence the gloves.
Oh, that's good news from the GP, that you can exercise your knee, without worrying about causing more damage. Sounds like the morning walk was just what you needed. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have a mask and gloves with you at all times, especially when in the car. I'm glad you were able to order the ones you want.
Good idea, too, to sign up for the yard waste pick ups. I pay a set monthly fee for weekly trash collection and they collect regular garbage, yard waste, and recycling. I usually keep the recycling bin until it is at least 3/4 full before I take it out to the curb. The monthly fee is charged whether I take a bin out to the curb for collection or not! It is part of the utilities bill, which combines electricity, water, sewer service, and waste collection.
Well done on the quiz! Enjoy the choir quiz, tonight!
I'll feel more confident about going out if I have the mask and gloves with me. I only want the gloves for the machines at the garage.
DeleteThe monthly payment covers kerbside collection of all the other household waste and things like glass, paper, cardboard and tins but the collection of garden waste is an additional and chargeable service.
Definitely good news about your knee & laughter with friends in the quiz - that's good medicine, as was the walk this morning. Happy Weekend.
ReplyDeleteLaughter is definitely the best medicine!
DeleteI hope you have a good weekend.
That’s good news about being able to exercise.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend, Eileen.
I'm glad to have the reassurance that I'm doing the right thing.
DeleteI hope you have a good weekend too.
I'm glad you got some reassurance from the doctor. I ordered some masks from someone I know who makes them. I also keep some gloves in my bag. The only time I have worn gloves out and about is to fill up with fuel. Other times I rely on hand sanitizer.
ReplyDeleteI'm only expecting to use the gloves at the garage. For the time being that's the only place where I'd need them but I wanted the reassurance of having them just in case.
DeleteI'm pleased that exercise is back on the cards. Hopefully the pain will reduce if I can strengthen my knee properly.
