In the garden ...

... still plenty of fuchsia flowers and the marguerites are starting to fill out.

I had a lovely productive day yesterday ... except on the decluttering side of things. I made a token effort and took some (really poor quality) photos which will need to be redone before I can place any adverts! On the plus side I did two loads of washing, completed a list of assorted admin tasks, and applied for my state pension. Am I the only person who is annoyed that we have to apply for the pension to be paid? I also spent a pleasant hour or so out in the garden soaking up the sunshine while I got on with the deadheading - I love having all the flowers but the deadheading is a never ending job. It is quite a therapeutic task though.

I spoke to my sister yesterday and heard the dreadful news that, she is fine but some family members, including some of the children, have tested positive for Covid. Fortunately they all appear to have mild cases so I am praying that they all make a full recovery. The second bit of bad news was that another one of the children came off her scooter on holiday so has spent a night in A&E. She has broken a bone in her hand and her face is swollen and grazed, and although she hasn't lost or broken any teeth she will need dental treatment when they get home. They say that bad news comes in threes so I'm wondering what the next lot of news will be? There was some good news though ... Baby R is taking his first unaided steps at almost 11 months old!

M will be here this morning to tidy up the garden. It's mostly weeding this time but the four climbing roses and the new cotoneaster could do with some attention as well. She dropped off a load of poppy seed heads when I was out on Wednesday - lobbed them over the side gate - so she'll do whatever she needs to do with those as well ... these are red poppies!

Apart from that I have nothing else planned for today although I really should get on with the decluttering. Whether I will or not is an entirely different matter!

  1. I agree it's annoying having to apply for your pension but at least it only has to be done the once.
I do hope your family members will recover quickly and the little girl too, what a horrible thing to happen while on holiday. I hope the decluttering goes well for you today.

    1. At least the application form was straightforward to complete.

Thank you. I'm hoping and praying that they make a full recovery and don't end up with the long Covid. Yes, poor little E looks a mess at the moment and they have a long journey home which is going to be miserable for her.

I'm hoping the decluttering goes well too 😂

  2. I suppose it is because some may wish to defer taking their pension for a while. But an opt out would save on the paperwork, wouldn't it?
I'm sorry your family is having so much upset at the moment and I hope everyone will be fine and get well quickly. So much for 'children can't catch covid 19'!!
    Take care. xx

    1. The first affected caught it at school, year 7, when the school bubbles ended in the last week of term. her Mum and younger sister caught it from her although the younger girl, year 5, finished school early because Covid was rampaging through the primary school children! As you say, so much for 'children can't catch Covid 19'. So far their Dad, my nephew, hasn't caught it.

  3. Your fuchsia are so pretty!

Sorry to hear that some of the family have tested positive for Covid! Hopefully, they will continue to have mild symptoms. Speedy recovery to the one who fell off her scooter! And well done, Baby R!

You were very productive, yesterday; enjoy gardening with M, today. Looking forward to seeing all the red poppies when they bloom, next year. :)

    1. I'm hoping that next week sees them all feeling much better and that my nephew, at the moment Covid free, continues to be unaffected.

The video of Baby R is so cute. I keep watching it.

It's raining so I won't be doing any hands on gardening today but it'll be good to catch up with M. It's time to discuss the next stage and also make plans for when the patio is going to be cleaned and repointed

Red poppies ... I'm excited at the prospect 😀

  4. Best wishes to all your family members who have Civic. Sad for little girl who came off her scooter.
The Marguerite's are such jolly little flowers, instant happiness!
    Red poppies, I love them.

    1. Thanks Carole.

I'm really pleased with the marguerites ... instant happiness is a perfect description! And it's not a proper garden without red poppies 😉

  6. Very pretty pink flowers in your garden. If only closer Eileen I could lobe you some white poppy seeds :)

Not sure what happened to my comment yesterday, but glad the musical was good, too bad about the rebels at the theatre.

Sorry to hear that many of your family members have COVID & yes let's pray for mild & no long lasting effects; there's still so much to learn about Long COVID.

    Happy weekend.

    1. I hadn't thought about white poppies ... makes a note to google them later!

The musical was great and it was fantastic to be back watching a live performance but the behaviour of some people just took the edge off it a little.

Thanks Mary-Lou. I'm hoping that I can report their complete recovery very soon.

    1. Thanks Ailime. The last I heard is that their symptoms are mild so it's looking promising.
