46/365: 8:30am and work has started on the fence ... the first panel has been removed

The one important thing on my list was done in good time - remove the support wires for the climbing roses - but apart from that I didn't do very much at all yesterday. Fortunately, the fencer wasn't continually distracted like I was and this was the progress by the time he left for the day.

I had every intention of completing a couple of tasks but most of the morning was taken up with phone calls from family and friends - my sister asking if I want some more books (yes please, so she'll drop them round during the week), friend J, the one with the four daughters, arranging to meet up (she's bringing her grand-daughter, Little Miss P, to see me on Thursday), and H arranging to come round one evening. They were very long phone calls so I don't know that there's anything left for any of us to talk about when we do meet up but it'll be lovely to see them all!

The afternoon was taken up with a surprise visit from L and P, breaking their journey on their way to London. I'm not really at ease with surprise visits but I know that they have been more cautious than most as L has non-Covid related breathing problems and is on oxygen, so they haven't been socialising at all. Anyway, we had a lovely afternoon together and they may call in again when they are on their way back home.

The fencer is due back today but the forecast is for heavy rain and strong winds so I don't know how easy it will be for him to manage in those conditions ... he works alone so he'll have a battle with the long lengths of wood if the wind is as bad as they promise. I'll be doing my best to complete the tasks I failed to do yesterday and then carry on with the decluttering.

  1. The new fence is looking good, I see your neighbours have the good side facing their garden not that it matters a jot. The weather was dreadful here yesterday and it's raining heavily again today, I hope your fencer is able to get on with the job.

    1. The new fence is a different construction and is wider than the old one and this way round means that we maintain the correct boundary line and I lose less of my flower beds. I'll be growing climbers against it so I won't see that much of it once they've had time to grow. It's been raining here during the night but it's okay at the moment, so hopefully it won't stop him working.

  2. Wow, he managed to get quite a bit done in one day! I hope the weather won't cause any delays, but, I suppose it can't be helped if it does. Sounds like you had a very social day, between phone calls and surprise visits! Hope you have a good day, today, and accomplish all you want to get done!

    1. He's been working for an hour already and thankfully the rain is holding off for now. It was a good day all round yesterday and I think it's going to be another social day today as H is visiting this afternoon instead of coming round for an evening as previously arranged. I've abandoned all thoughts of doing any work and just intend to enjoy myself 😃

  3. That fence is going to be quite a steady fence by the looks of it. Oh & I see what you mean about the patio stones needing a good clean ... I always enjoy the before, during & after photos :)

    1. That's the plan ... no more worries every time there's a strong wind. The old fence bent at 45° and was in serious danger of losing a few panels whereas, unless we're really unlucky, this one will stay put!

Yes, the patio is long overdue a good clean. It'll be good to see it all finished.

  4. Look at all the progress being made - woo hoo! I am imagining all colors of pretty blooms in front of those nice new wood planks.

    1. Think pinks, reds, whites and purples with a little bit of yellow thrown in the mix ... that's all the colours of the existing climbers so far.

    1. The fence is definitely strong and is not moving, so a huge improvement on the old one! My knee is feeling much better thanks, and I'm being careful with it. I've abandoned any pretence of doing any work and am enjoying a social week instead ☺️
