In The Meantime ...
... while I wait for all the work to start, I'm taking the opportunity to sort through all the boxes and get rid of all the stuff I no longer use or need.
I realised when I was packing for the move that there were so many things that I had never used in all the time I'd lived in that house. Despite all the decluttering I did between 2013 and 2024 there is still a significant amount that needs to go, so it's an ideal opportunity to get rid of it before I start working out what sort of storage I want/need in every room.
I've already made a start on the books. I've kept about 30 novels and the rest, just over 100 books, have already gone to various friends in the u3a. Also, three boxes of music books and a box of CDs have gone to Oxfam (as they will sent them on to their specialist music department).
There will still be more novels, music books, and CDs to go once I find them. I know they were split amongst the majority of the boxes to help keep the weight down so my plan now is to open each box and deal with the contents, keeping only the items I'll use or want to keep for whatever reason. I still have to decide what I want to do with my instruments, and there is also a lots of camera equipment to deal with ...I can't see me ever using the studio lamps and flashlights again, for example, so they can be sold.
There are about 70 boxes to sort through, plus a few bits in the garage, so I will have plenty to keep me busy over the next couple of months. Best get started!
We did the same when we moved here 16 years ago and did not miss anything, it's great to live with less stuff.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear and I'm glad you didn't miss anything. I'm making a start, and I need to be ruthless this time! xx
DeleteSounds like you'll have plenty to keep you busy while you wait for other things to happen. I emptied out my living room to get it ready for painting. I am planning to take a good hard look at what I put back once the painting is done.
ReplyDeleteYes, there's definitely plenty to keep me busy, but bit by bit I'll get it done. I hope by now the painter has turned up and your room has been painted. Fingers crossed anyway. xx
