A Garden Update

The view across the field at the bottom of my garden is starting to change. It used to look like this ...

but today, gardener M removed the box bushes to give me this new, improved view ...

Removing the box bushes isn't proving to be as easy as it sounds. They've been planted through layers of membrane and are somehow tangled up in it, and to make a difficult job even harder, the gravel is at least a foot deep. Once M has removed all the roots, the plan is to clear the gravel and remove all the membrane. At the time of writing this, I think it is unlikely I will continue to have gravel in the back garden, so for now the gravel will be moved to the front garden (which is already covered in gravel) and will stay there until I make a decision about it.

The longer term plan is to extend parts of the lawn to cover parts currently covered by the gravel and create two or three small flower beds in the lawn with curving brick paths linking the garden together. I can see it in my mind but it's quite difficult to explain!

Both neighbours have told me about the three trees in the garden and advised that I need to get them removed as soon as possible. They can't remember the type of trees but do remember that the then gardener said they were too big for the space and planted too close to the bungalow, possibly resulting in eventual damage to the foundations, but he was ignored and the family planted them anyway! The neighbour on my right hand side has been worried about the possibility of damage to her bungalow from the one growing right up against the fence. That gardener had been trying to keep the trees to a reasonable size, which is why they aren't as big as they should be for their age. I could do without the expense, but I will arrange for a tree specialist (can't remember the proper name!) to come and have a look at them, and then follow his advice. If the trees do have to come out it will be expensive but not as expensive as it will be to rectify any damages to the foundations.

  1. Tree surgeon! Yes, that would be a very good thing to get done - tree roots can do so much damage. Hopefully, it won't be too expensive.
I love your ideas for your garden. xx
