Looking Forwards

It's been a quiet couple of days at home, just feeling under the weather but am thankfully coming out the other side of it now and plan to hit the ground running tomorrow.

I now have most of the quotes for the work I want done on my new home. I've prioritised the works and will tackle the electrics, kitchen, bathroom, replacement windows and radiators in the first stage. The garden will be tackled in the second stage. Sadly, I didn't qualify for either of the grants I applied for as the EPC rating on this bungalow is too good. Still, at least I tried so I won't be wondering 'what if'! Once I have approval of the finances, I can place the orders and sit back and wait. Most of the trades are currently working on an 8 week lead time so nothing will be done just yet, but I can keep an eye on the online prices for kitchen appliances, tiles, and bathroom fittings and buy early if there are any sale/clearance prices offered.

I also want to restart the process to have my second knee replacement operation scheduled. It was postponed last year because of the emergency treatment on my eyes; the eye specialist asked me to cancel the knee operation because she thought it was too much for my body, and saving my sight had to be the priority. My sight is now stable, so I want to reorganise the knee operation for some time after our June holiday. There's never going to be a convenient time but I'm worried that it I leave it too long I will be dropped out of the system and have to start again with a new referral.

Tomorrow will be an online shopping day. I can't manage to walk around the shops any more, but am desperate for some new clothes so will be looking online for something suitable and I also need to arrange a food delivery for later this week. Apart from that I will be making checklists for all of the work in stage 1 of the renovations - I love lists!

  1. Sounds like you are making progress on your house renovations. I was supposed to have someone recommended by my neighbor come in to paint my living room, today, but, so far (it's just past noon), he has not showed up!

    1. I'm getting there slowly, thanks. I've read the update in some of the comments on your blog and realised that there was some confusion about the day. I hope he turns up on Thursday, as promised. xx

  2. I hope you feel better soon. You have so much to do for the house, but it sounds like you are getting the process under control.

It's well over twenty years ago now, before bear was born, but uncle had two operations within a week. One was his eyes, the other I can't remember but I seem to think it was somewhere on his leg, possibly his foot. I suspect he was trying to make it easier for me to stay with him as I was temping at the time and didn't have a lot of money. It really didn't go well for him, and his body really struggled. I think that your eye doctor made the right suggestion. Good luck with the knee.

    1. There is a lot to do but very little that I actually need to do myself. I am taking a supervisory role!

I'm glad I didn't go ahead with the knee operation and took the time to allow my eyes to heal properly. I'm sure it has made a big difference. xx

  3. Beautiful yellow rose - is that a David Austen rose? We have a few garden projects in the works & the time between finding a source to do the work, getting the quote, then booking the work all seems SO long. I cannot wait to see your before & afters of the work you are having done.

    1. Hello Mary-Lou, how lovely to hear from you. I hope you are keeping well?

I'm really missing having a flower garden but there is no point in planting anything yet because of the work that has to be done. You're right, it does take a long time until the work actually gets done. I'll be writing a post next week to explain what I'm planning for the garden. xx

    2. Sorry, I forgot to say that I don't know what the rose is. I photographed it when I visited a friend a few weeks ago. xx

    1. I now have a good idea of what I want and I can't wait to see it all come together.

I can't tell you how relieved I am to still have my sight. I know I was very lucky this time. xx
