6/52: Go to a Book Signing

I included 'going to a book signing' on my list of things to do but had no idea how I was going to achieve this one. Which only goes to show how stupid I am!  A quick search of the internet revealed that a well known chain of bookstores (Waterstones, in case you can't guess) regularly has book signings in their stores and they advertise these events online.

I've been checking the future events since the start of the year and was gobsmacked to see a signing by someone I've known for years - I didn't even know he was a published author.  And the icing on the cake was that it was to be held in the Bath shop which is only 12 miles aways from here.

So today I toddled off to Bath to meet Joffre White, buy the books (he's written two!) and get them signed.  He's a children's author and his series (there will eventually be four books) has developed from the bedtime stories he used to tell his son, Chris. Chris was also there today, apparantly quite a rare event, so I got him to sign the books as well.

5/52: Postcrossing

With the growth of texting and emails I only ever seem to receive bills or junk mail in the post - it's very rare to receive anything else as greetings cards are usually hand delivered.  I used to have a penfriend but she died about four years ago and I hadn't got round to looking for a new penfriend when our lives were pushed into touch by Ced's diagnosis and since then I haven't had the time to commit to writing long, interesting letters.

I thought that Postcrossing would fill the gap.  When you register with this site you request an address to send a postcard to and in return you receive a postcard from someone else. You never know where the postcards are coming from, or when to expect them, so it is a lovely surprise when one turns up in your postbox.

So far I've sent 12 cards (to USA (2), Finland, China, Denmark, Netherlands (2), Italy, Russia, Germany (2) and Taiwan) and received 14 cards (from Netherlands (4), Romania, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Thailand, USA, Finland, Estonia, China and France).  I don't know how I've managed to receive more than I've sent, but I'm not complaining!

I'll probably keep going with this one.  My only hesitation is that it doesn't replace having a penfriend as you never write to the same person twice so there is no chance of building a long term friendship. However, it does brighten up your postbox!

That's five things completed now, forty seven more to complete.

Photo Scavenger Hunt - March 2012

Unfortunately I missed last month's hunt but I've managed to complete the March list.  Many thanks to Kathy at Postcards from the P.P. for organising the scavenger hunt.

26 Week Photo Challenge - Shapes

This was a bit of a rush job but I wanted to join in this time as I've missed quite a few now.  I've concentrated on circles, photographing items around the home.

First photo was of some of the plates in the draining rack.  The focus isn't brilliant but I like the curves and the shadow.

Best/favourite photo is of a box of straws.  I just like the colours in this one.  Again the focus isn't that sharp.  Obviously an aspect that I need to concentrate on!

Final photo is of an old wooden chair. I haven't really managed to capture the detail of the texture but I like the abstract of the circular screw and the rectangular struts.

Linking with Karen @ Me, My Camera, Eye. Many thanks to Karen for organising the challenge.

Catching Up

Just a quick post to apologise for my absence, unfortunately 'life' has got in the way. Things aren't going too well at home as Ced's illness (motor neurone disease) has significantly progressed and we've had our routine upset by the extra support he needs from me. We're getting it sorted though and I should be back updating my blog in the next week or two.

I have been reading all your blogs but simply haven't had time to comment on all your lovely posts.

Hope you're all well and looking forward to chatting to you all again soon.
