Day 14: Yet More Cosmos!

I'm afraid the Harry Potter photos will have to wait until tomorrow at least. I woke up with a bad migraine and have spent the morning in bed. I'm up now but am still feeling rather fragile, so a quick snap of the garden is all I've managed for today.

Day 13: I Was Here!

... but I'm home now, tired and happy, with lots of photos for the scavenger hunt in the camera. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow.

Day 12: Worse Than I Thought

Over the last couple of weeks I've worked my way through the entire house and moved all the stuff that needs to go, for whatever reason, to the end of the living room. This is what it looks like now ...

It looks horrendous doesn't it? This stack does include things that'll go back upstairs once the work on the bedrooms is finished and the new furniture is delivered for the bedrooms, but most of what you see has to go. I am hopeful that now it's in sight all the time I'll get on and dispose of the unwanted items.

I'm off on a day trip tomorrow, which I'm very excited about!

Day 11: Bank Holiday Monday

I was intending to go to the coast today but decided in the end to give the Bank Holiday traffic and crowds a miss and settle for another day at home. It turned out to be the right decision as I'm struggling with the heat for some reason and everything is an effort. I don't know why because it's not actually that hot but today's walk will have to wait until later tonight when the sun has gone.

This means that today's photo is another from the garden ... cosmos again!

Day 9: Home Improvements

Despite feeling so tired yesterday I ended up doing 9251 steps, my best effort so far.

I've been out for a very short walk today, choosing a new route up through part of the Hilperton Gap ...

Today is all about getting ready for the work I want to have done upstairs - the family bathroom and en-suite are being overhauled with new tiling in both and possibly a new suite in the family bathroom. My own bedroom needs to be decorated and then all of upstairs and the stairs will have new flooring (although the flooring may not be done at this stage, it all depends on costs!). I'll also be choosing new bedroom furniture so today I'm photographing the sleigh bed and the existing units to see if I can sell them.

Once that is done I'll start moving into the smallest bedroom, where I'll sleep until the work is completed. I don't have a start date yet but, as I'll take the opportunity to sort and declutter as I move things between rooms, by starting now I can take my time and not have to rush.

Day 8: Feeling Tired!

Well, after saying that I'd completed my daily steps target with ease on Wednesday, yesterday was a struggle. I did meet the target but my body was protesting by late afternoon and today I am still feeling tired. As they say, 'no pain no gain', so instead of giving up and having an easy day I've tried to turn things around - the result of moving a couple of activities forward is that I'd completed most of my 8,000 steps by lunch time and the remainder seems very achievable without feeling like I'm actually exercising.

Today's photo was taken at the start of my walk, just round the corner from my home. This part of the village is crisscrossed by lots of paths and green spaces so, if I don't want to go too far from home, it's possible to vary my walks to keep it interesting.

As soon as I finish writing this, I'm going to curl up on the sofa with my book ('The Collector by Nora Roberts') and lose myself in the story for an hour or so. I don't really have any other plans for today except that it'll definitely be an early bedtime!

Day 7: Canal Walk

I'm happy to report that it was another successful day yesterday with my target of 8,000 steps completed with ease.

I've already been out for a walk this morning, along the canal. I haven't been out early for months so it was lovely to be welcomed back by the dog walkers who are out at that time. I wasn't out for long, just to take my daily photo, the view looking towards Semington showing the narrow boat hire yard ...

... and also to take three photos for Mary-Lou's Take Three Thursday, where you are asked to share three photos that are linked in some way.  The common theme for my three photos is that they are images of plants I saw growing along the canal towpath this morning.

Day 6: Feeling Pleased!

I'm feeling pleased with myself! I completed my target '8,000 steps' for the second day in a row and also managed to be active for 7 out of my target 9 hourly periods during the day. It doesn't sound much but it's a massive improvement on the past few months. My longer term target is to complete 10,000 steps (or more) every day, but 8,000 is enough for now - achievable with a bit of effort.

Yesterday I walked to the garden centre to meet Joy, stopping off at the cemetery on the way to take a photo for the summer fun photo scavenger hunt. It took 45 minutes to get there, so a sit down with a drink and a cake was very much needed - I'm not used to that much exercise! Before I'd left home I'd planned to walk both ways but Joy saved the day and gave me a lift home. I think I'd still be at the garden centre otherwise! It was lovely to catch up with Joy again but the best part of the day was meeting her youngest granddaughter - she is absolutely gorgeous and modelled beautifully for another photo for the scavenger hunt (the baby, not Joy!!)

I found this in the garden this morning. I don't think it's anything I planted, so does anyone know what it is please? It's quite small, about the size of a 5p coin.

I'm spending most of today at home, with plans to sort out a box or two. Everything I listed on Gumtree has sold so I need to get on and decide what to advertise next. I'm out tonight for a film night at a friend's home. We're getting a take away and will watch 'Kingsman: The Secret Service' - the others saw it when it was originally released so this is for my benefit as apparently we're all going to see the second Kingsman film which is due for release soon.

Day 5: A Happy Find!

First things first ... I managed to complete my 'steps' target yesterday! Mostly down to wandering around Matalan yesterday, although I did make my friend do three circuits of the car park with me last night after we came out of the cinema, so that I could meet my target! The film was 'Wind River', not one I'd have bothered going to see but it was excellent and we all gave it a positive review.

It's another 'at home' morning, waiting for a delivery. I've woken with a bad headache so am quite relieved that I don't have to rush around this morning. I've taken some tablets this time as I need to feel better for this afternoon ... I'm meeting Joy for coffee and I'll be walking to the garden centre where we're meeting, about a 30 minute walk each way. I haven't seen Joy since she relocated to Andover so I'm looking forward to catching up with all her news.

Today's photo is of a happy find in the garden this morning. I was looking at the next part of the garden I want to tidy up and discovered this crocosmia (lucifer) getting ready to flower.

When I planted all the crocosmia earlier this year, the blurb on the packaging said that they wouldn't flower in the first year. They've all produced leaves which have been up for ages, but looking closely this morning, a few are now producing flowers. Better late than never!

Day 4: Retail Therapy!

There's not much hope of a walk in the sunshine today so I opted for some retail therapy instead. I desperately need some new clothes so updating my wardrobe is one of the priority items on my list.

I bought a new black skirt in the Matalan sale which will be perfect to update my band uniform. I couldn't find a suitable white shirt to go with it so have now ordered one online. I just have to find a lightweight black cardigan, and I'll have my new uniform sorted!

The afternoon is set aside for catching up with odds and sods that are overdue for completion, all small tasks that'll only take 5 or 10 minutes each to do but which I keep putting off. I've no idea why I haven't been able to make myself get on with them as they are constantly on my mind and, to be honest, the worry about not doing them requires more effort than actually doing the tasks!

Tonight, I'm meeting friends to watch the Odeon Screen Unseen film.

Day 2: An 'At Home' Sort of Day

I didn't manage to go for a walk yesterday (thunderstorms and visitors) but I did get some things listed to sell on Gumtree. I'm a victim of my own success as two of the items have sold already so I have to wait in today to complete the transactions.

I was going to walk across town to meet a friend for coffee and cake so she's now coming here instead. I know I won't get anything done after she arrives so I've been pottering in the garden to try to get on top of the many weeds that have appeared in the last couple of weeks. It's all a bit 'wet' out there still but I've cleared most of the area I'd aimed to complete today. I want to put bark down to help with weed control but will have to buy some more, maybe tomorrow, to be able to finish the job.

Here's today's photo. It's just a bit too breezy to be photographing the plants so this is the best of the bunch ... the euonymus is displaying its autumn colours already.

Day 1: Good Intentions

The subtitle to this post could be ... 'I have to do something!' so I'm embarking on another Project 365 where the focus is on being active, being positive, and living life in the moment. It will also encourage me to continue blogging!

Partly it's about getting on and making the changes I need to make in order to change things for the better, starting with being generally more active. I'd been debating whether to get a Fitbit for ages so, no more thinking and more doing, it arrived yesterday.

I'm waiting for it to charge and then I'll tackle the set up!

It's been raining on and off all morning which means that the plan to go for a walk this afternoon may not happen. Plan B is to list some more things for sale followed by some music practice. I've let my personal practice slip to the point where it is non-existent and is near the top of my list of aspects of life that need to be sorted out.
