Kitchen - Days 16 to 19 & Bathroom - Days 2 to 5
There are no photos today!
The kitchen is nearly finished. They have moved on to the tiling, which they started yesterday, and will be doing the grouting and finishing off on Tuesday. The radiator should be reinstalled on Tuesday, or Wednesday at the latest, and then the only thing left will be to have the flooring laid. It's taken longer than expected but that's down to the delay caused by the problems with the plumbing, but I am very happy with how it's all looking. There will be photos once it's all done!
I've been given the go ahead to start unpacking all of the kitchen equipment and deciding where everything will go. I can also start filling the fridge and freezer, which means the small fridge I bought second-hand not long after I moved in can now go, as can the old microwave, kettle and toaster. I may offer it all on the local Freecycle site for a quick collection. That's all going to be my weekend tasks, or as much of it as I have the energy for.
Niall will be away for a couple of days over the weekend, so I will have plenty of time for the unpacking and to start some batch cooking. He went into town this morning to buy the ingredients I need for the first lot of batch cooking so tomorrow, as soon as I find the slow cooker, I'll start off a batch of lentil and vegetable stew, and also cook a veggie chilli on the hob. I have started an order for a supermarket delivery to restock the pantry, so I'm hoping to get that completed this weekend ready for a delivery one day next week. Then I can focus on getting the freezers full - I have the big freezer in the garage and a small one in the kitchen - so I see lots more batch cooking in the near future. I'm so looking forward to eating some lovely home cooked meals again. I'm also looking forward to dismantling the temporary kitchen set up at one end of the living room, which is now getting on my nerves!
There's been a lot of progress in the bathroom, although to be honest, it now looks even worse than it did on day one. I can see there is a new floor (the old floor was rotten in places) and he has finally sorted out all the pipework - it's now much more streamlined and the access for draining the system has been moved to the attic instead of under the bathroom floor so that I won't have to remove and replace tiles in the future if the system needs to be drained. He'll be starting on the tiling next week, which I am really looking forward to seeing.
