Yesterday and Today!

Yesterday was not the best of days. I knew I'd be feeling a bit low as it was the thirteenth anniversary of my late partner's death so I'd already decided on a quiet day at home. I can't believe it's been thirteen years ... it still feels like yesterday sometimes.

As it happened it was just as well I was at home. I had a call from my bank asking if I recognised a recent payment, which I didn't. This led to an in-depth scrutiny of my bank statement with me saying whether I'd authorised all of the payments. It took ages but everything else was fine, just the one payment which the bank had already stopped. However, this meant that my bank cards needed to be cancelled, leaving me with the job of contacting all of the companies I deal with where I've authorised regular payments and updating my accounts with them to include my new bank card details. I won't receive the actual cards for a few days but the new details are available in my banking app, so I made a start on it yesterday afternoon and will complete the list today ... hopefully! It's a nuisance and time consuming but I am grateful that the bank was on the ball and picked up the fraudulent payment straight away.

Before all that happened, I made appointments for quotes for replacement blinds and new curtains for the two bedroom that are currently being decorated. That's arranged for next Monday. I also gave the go ahead to install the new inset fire in the living room and am waiting for a date for that, and have asked for quotes from a couple of plasterers to sort out the walls in the living room ... that's just to give me an idea of costs as I doubt that I can afford to get that room sorted yet.

I also started making notes on rules/guidelines for when I get a lodger. My starting point is the draft contract issued by Spare Room, the website where I plan to advertise my room for rent, from which I will eventually create a bespoke contract document for the room I plan to rent out. That's not needed yet as I haven't actually advertised the room. I am hoping to get that done in the next month or so. Friend S has offered to look over the contract document once I've put one together as she has some experience through running her own AirB&B, so will check to see if there is anything obvious that I have missed.

I'm waiting for Niall to get back and then we are going to empty the contents of the built in wardrobe in one bedroom to the new wardrobes in my own bedroom ... that's the most exciting part of the day!
