A Sunday Treat

The ice cream van comes round every Sunday afternoon during the warmer weather. We weren't expecting it today but it seems that this is the start of their season and they will now be round every Sunday until September or October. It was a lovely surprise. Niall went out to buy them and treated us to a mega 99 each, so three flakes instead of one!

It's the same family firm that we used to buy ice creams from as children. The family was originally from Italy and their product is still true to the recipe that they brought over from there.

It's changed now, but their van used to have a very distinctive tune. When we were very small, we were often told that the tune meant that they didn't have any ice cream left! Either that, or my parents and brothers would start singing as loud as they could so that we couldn't hear the van! When we were a bit older, I can remember queuing up at their red and green van with my sister and using the waiting time wisely to look through the menu on the side of the van to make our choice ... was it going to be a strawberry mivvi, a wafer, or a maybe a cornet? As a special treat, sometimes Mum gave us the extra money to buy 99s, but only one flake each then!

Happy Memories!
