Kitchen - Day 5

It hasn't gone as planned today! This was how they left it at the end of the day, so the units for both corners on that side of the room are in place.

The biggest problem was in the middle of that run, where the washing machine, sink, and dishwasher will go. Unfortunately, when they removed the old sink unit it was clear that the new unit and the appliances weren't going to fit. The problem was the state of the pipe work (see next photo). It's also clear that there has been a bad leak at some time in the past and that needs sorting out as well!

So, one phone call later and one of their plumber friends turned up to sort it all out. He was brilliant (and not at all expensive!), came straight away to make a start on the work and will come back on Sunday to finish it. We're away for the weekend so have left them with a front door key and the plumbing issues should all be sorted by the time we get back on Sunday afternoon ... fingers crossed!

The other problem was that the electricity went off this afternoon ... the lights were working but not the sockets. Obviously the electric fan heater wouldn't work without power and it was freezing! The water was off because of what the plumber was doing and the kettle was out of action without power, so no hot drinks either. Eventually, the problem was tracked down to this ...

... someone had put a screw through this cabling. Once it was found it was soon sorted, the power came back on and hot drinks gratefully received by everyone. I don't want to name the culprit, but ... it was my BiL!
