100 Happy Days: Day 23

It has been an emotional, but happy, day and I felt very close to my mum.  Her mum died when she was eleven years old and the five children, my mum being the eldest, were split up and sent to different orphanages.  Mum was sent to an orphanage in Truro which was run by nuns.  Every week they were taken to worship in Truro Cathedral and mum always spoke about looking up to the windows set high up in the walls, touching the roof.

  1. Your mother and her siblings were so young when they lost their mother! Did she and her siblings reunite when they got older?

    1. Yes they did. Mum was closest to her next brother and sister (in age, so the three older children) and we grew up knowing them very well. Her sister is the one who died last year at the age of 98! The two younger brothers didn't move back to this area but we knew them, although not such a close relationship.
