Have a Look Inside
The internet connection was finally sorted out on Friday, so apologies for the delay in showing you the photos I promised. These were all taken on Monday, the day I moved in.
We'll start in the living/dining room. This room is huge compared to the space I had before and I was worried that my furniture would look a little lost, but it's actually fitted in really well. I will need to buy a more suitable dining table at some stage and maybe another sofa, but it looks fine for now. There are only three sockets in this room and that has dictated where the furniture can go until I have the electrician in to sort it all out.
As I'm typing this, I've realised that I didn't take any photos of the conservatory. You can see it through the sliding doors at the back of the room and I'll add some photos when I show the outside of the house and the garden.
Next is the kitchen, again much bigger than the one in my previous home. The sellers removed all of the appliances except for a slimline dishwasher which doesn't seem to work! I knew they weren't leaving any appliances and the units are not as good as they look in the photos, so the kitchen will be Project 2. We went to IKEA on Wednesday to use their free design service and expertise. I like the layout and the cabinets I've chosen, but will buy the appliances somewhere else. My BiL is arranging for one of his friends to fit it for me. There's no date planned yet, but it will be done as soon as possible. In the meantime I am managing meals with an airfryer, a microwave, an Instant Pot, and a two ring hotplate. I have a freezer (which will eventually end up in the garage as a back-up), and am using cool boxes in place of a fridge.
Next, it's the hall. There's a useful cupboard, which is meant for coat and shoes, etc., but for now it's the home to all the cleaning stuff, ironing board and stick hoover. I don't know where all this stuff will end up, but I'd like to eventually end up with this as a places for coats, shoes, and bags.
The bathroom will be Project No 3. The shower doesn't work and I wouldn't be able to get out of the bath, so for now I am managing with a strip wash and will use the shower when I visit family or friends. Again, this is another project that needs to be completed as soon as possible. The plan is to make it into a wet room and convert the huge cupboard (it's not an airing cupboard) into a utility space for the washing machine and tumble dryer.
Now the bedrooms, starting with Bedroom 3. This will eventually be my study and will probably be the last room that I tackle. For now it holds the single bed for any overnight visitors, but I don't intend to have a bed in this room in the long term.
And finally, the main bedroom which is the one I'm using. I'll eventually need to sort out what I want in the way of wardrobes and chest of drawers but that's way down the list!
So that's all the rooms in my new home. At the moment I am getting quotes for Project 1, which is having the electrical work done and all the ceilings skimmed. There are very few electric sockets in the place and none of them are placed where they'd be useful! The ceilings have to be skimmed because the artex pattern is all over the place and will drive me mad!
I'll show some photos of the conservatory and the garden in my next post.
Your new home looks lovely and spacious. I'm loving the idea of having a conservatory. I am looking forward to seeing you personalize your living space and putting your personal touches to it. Unpacking and putting things away will keep you busy for some time! Hope you have friends and family helping you with that.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bless. It's bigger than my previous home and this time the additional space is where I want it. I'm just unpacking the kitchen, bathroom, and clothes for now. The rest will wait until after all the messy work is done - electrics, ceilings, decorating, floors, etc. Yes, I have lots of offers of help, don't worry. xx
DeleteLovely new home Eileen, it all looks very spacious. I hope you will be very happy there.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carole. It's one week since I moved in and I feel at home already! xx
DeleteThat's lovely. Spacious and airy. I agree about the artex ceilings - they would drive me bonkers too. It all looks remarkably well organised - good for you.
ReplyDeleteAnd welcome back to the land of the internet! xx
Thanks Joy. Today's job is to get some tradesmen to quote for the ceilings. They all look a mess and I want nice smooth ceilings, painted white!xx
DeleteI'm so glad you're finally in your new home! How exciting. It looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. I can't quite believe it's taken this long to get to this stage. Still, I'm here now and making my plans for all the improvements to make it mine! xx
DeleteWhat a nice new home you have. The space is very nice and I'm sure you will make it your own with the changes you have planned. All the best.
