I'm Following a Tree ...

... but I have absolutely no idea what sort of tree it is!

It's one of the trees in my back garden and is currently about 9 or 10 feet tall.

here's a close up of the bark ...

and a close up of the buds ...

Any ideas what sort of tree it is, please?

    1. There are three trees in that corner of the garden and I chose this one for this year's tree because I thought it was the most interesting of the three. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it's a suitable size for its position in the garden. xx

  3. I have an app that identifies flowers, trees and shrubs, it tells me that it is a Horse Chestnut, Aesculu Hippocastanum. It’s a handy little app, when a friend of mine moved into a new home we spent a lovely afternoon going around the garden identifying everything. June

    1. Thanks June. I do hope the app is wrong in this case as a Horse Chestnut will be much too large for where it has been planted. Thanks for looking for me. When it finally gets some leaves, maybe you'll be kind enough to check again for me? xx

    1. Thanks for trying, Joy. I tried that and got myself completely confused. I'm hoping it is a relatively small tree, with pretty leaves and maybe some autumn colour. xx

  5. My first thought was Horse Chestnut but the buds are the wrong colour. If it's a magnolia it has strange colour flowers! It's a temporary mystery until the leaves open!

    1. It will have to be removed if it is a Horse Chestnut. It's too close to the house for a tree of that size. Hopefully the leaves will reveal themselves soon and the mystery can be solved. xx

  7. Oh what a lovely tree! I can't be much help on what it is but look forward to knowing more about it. I'm following an oak tree at Asylum Lake, the place I walk. It's a really lovely tree.

    1. I love trees, so I'm excited to have trees in my own garden at long last, as well as all the others on the far side of the stream. I like the structure of this one so am hoping it turns out to be one I can keep. xx
