Kitchen - Days 6 to 15 & Bathroom - Day 1

The problems with the plumbing in the kitchen has inevitably caused delays. It reached the stage where they couldn't continue until the plumbing was sorted out. I contacted IKEA about the issue and the woman I spoke to thought that maybe there was a part missing from the plumbing kit I'd originally received so she sent a replacement kit by express delivery. That was delivered to the wrong address (!), but eventually reached me due to the very kind man who arrived home to a mystery parcel and took the trouble to track me down - he lives right at the other end of the road, so it wasn't that easy to do, but he persevered and found me.

Anyway, the plumber popped in to check everything out, gave his seal of approval, and returned this morning to finish that part of the installation. It's so good to have running water back in the kitchen again! He's done a really good job ... the plumbing has transformed from this (3rd photo in the post), to this ...

... plus, he's added an extra stop tap on the pipe for the external tap so I can drain that part of the system in the winter to avoid the pipes freezing.

In the meantime, the others have finished off all the cupboards, though two have to be moved as they don't line up properly, and both work surfaces are in place.

The next step is the return of the electrician tomorrow to complete the second fix in the kitchen and also replace the consumer unit (fuse board). There won't be any power while he's doing that, so it's unlikely I can post anything tomorrow.

The kitchen tiles arrived this morning and the tiling will start on Wednesday. It won't be too long before I have my new kitchen up and working.

The bathroom is being knocked about as I write this post. Day 1 appears to be all about destruction. There was a huge cupboard in the corner and that is being removed to open up the room. Strange plumbing seems to be a feature of this bungalow. The bathroom fitter said he'd never seen anything like this in an ordinary home before! ...

This is where the new sink unit is going (on the wall where the white radiator is), and the new radiator will replace the towel rail. I'm so looking forward to the bathroom being completed, but it'll take about three weeks to get to that stage. It's being converted to a wet room, which means that I'll regain some of my independence and be able to take a shower without needing help ... can't wait!

    1. Yes, it has been a lot of work for them but it'll be worth it in the end. These are the two rooms that needed to most work. Every other room is just the decorating and possibly new flooring so, those rooms should come together much quicker once I get started on them. xx
