Making a Start!
I'm focusing on my health today, and learning about the control of type 2 diabetes in particular. As well as some research online, reading some websites recommended by the diabetes nurse at my doctor's surgery, I have started reading this book - a generous gift from my friend Joy. So far, so good. It's a lot of information to take in but bit by bit I will get it sorted.
After I've written this post I need to plan the meals for next week. There's meal plans and a recipe section in the book so I will be making good use of this resource. We're going shopping later this afternoon so it's a good time to incorporate some of the recipes in the plan for next week, with the aim of doing the full eight week blood sugar diet when I've had time to get my mind around it all!

Excellent x x
ReplyDeleteI haven't read much yet, but am enjoyed the pace of information. It's easier to understand than I was expecting, so many thanks for dropping the book round. Sorry I missed you. xx
DeleteI've read several of Michael Mosley's books, he has a way of making things sound simple.
DeleteI'll be looking for a proper invitation round soon to see progress on both you and the bungalow for myself! And yes, to your question on a different post about Garden Centres later in the year .
I enjoyed his programmes on TV as well.
DeleteDon't worry, you'll definitely get an invite in the near future. Promise! xx
Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy husband was diagnosed with diabetes in the summer. It was a bit of a shock but he realised he'd been eating far too much junk. He is more careful in what he eats, has cut out a lot of snacks and junk but eats a meal, smaller portion, in the evening. His doctor was well impressed when he went to his last appointment. At first, he was oh I can't eat this and that, but then he realised that a lot of it was about portions and just being mindful of what he eats. Mind you, he was eating a lot more sugar and sweets than I'd realised!
Thanks Sharon. I'm still getting my head around it all. I've been working on smaller, more sensible, portion sizes, and doing my best to cut out the snacks between meals. It's interesting to hear how it is working out for your husband. xx
DeleteSounds like a good book, Eileen. I had read another book that was written by the person who wrote the foreword to this book, Roy Taylor, MD, titled Life without Diabetes. I was on medication for diabetes for some time, then, brought my sugar levels down through diet and got off the medications. But, then, I couldn't keep to that diet as it was so restrictive, and, eventually, had to go back on medications.
ReplyDeleteCurrently, I am trying to stabilize my blood pressure and am trying to go on a salt-free diet. Easier said than done!
Joy mentioned Roy Taylor as well so when I'm ready I'll look to see if his books are available though the library service. I'm not on any specific medication for the diabetes yet, and hope I don't get to that stage. My aim is to reverse the diagnosis. xx
