The Little Things

Read | I've just finished 'The Versions of Us' by Laura Barnett, a book I'd recommend to everyone, and I've started on 'Water for Elephants' by Sara Gruen.  It's been on my to-read pile for ages so I was pleased when it was chosen by the book group for this month.  I haven't read much of it yet, but am enjoying it so far.

Watched | I went to see Sleeping Beauty on Saturday (which I wrote about in this post).  I also started watching 'Thirteen' on iPlayer and which I'm enjoying so far.

Heard | I can't think of anything that's really stuck out for me this week.  I've heard lots of recorder playing, which I wouldn't inflict on anyone, but apart from that I've opted for a quiet week and haven't been listening to the radio or iPod.

Made | I've made some progress with the family tree.  Not much, but I've been stuck for ages and mostly occupied with eliminating names, and now I've managed to find the correct line again so am slowly adding new names and dates.

Worn | Just the usual stuff, nothing special.  I'm still sorting out clothes to send to charity as part of a donation for Lent, but the exercise has made me realise that I seriously need to update my wardrobe and that, really, it is time to send most of it to the charity shop.  A shopping trip is being planned!

And Lastly ... I have the urge to continue with the next stage of the decluttering.  I was doing really well last year but lost the momentum and it all ground to a halt, but now the home improvements have started I'm keen to get on with the sorting and disposal of things, to make space for actually living and doing.  I'll keep you updated with my progress.

Thanks to Morgana for organising the Little Things, and to Amy for organising Five on Friday.

  1. It is a good feeling to declutter, we are in the process of doing the same. I realized that too with my wardrobe so I think I will be shopping too.

  3. Sounds like fun, clothes shopping. It is that time of year I think when everyone seem to be going through the process of de-cluttering.

  4. De-cluttering can certainly be overwhelming if done non stop. Sleeping Beauty is one of my favourite fairy tales, along with a favourite Disney Princess. Thanks for the book recommendation, The Version of Us. For me the biggest challenge in wardrobe re-design is stop taking my shopaholic sister's closet clean out! Have fun with the clothes shopping.

  5. I keep opening the wardrobe door and thinking I must have a clear out and then closing it again. Spring cleaning is in the air though so some decluttering may get done. I've been watching Thirteen too it's very intriguing so far:)

  8. I've always fancied watching Water for Elephants, hope you enjoy the book. Ha ha I remember the recorder playing from my daughter's primary years, not something I'd want to relive put it that way! Good luck with the family tree, it can be so frustrating but so rewarding at the same time. I haven't looked at mine for years, I got back to 1645 on one branch of my family tree but only a few generations back on the other branch. I must pick it up again one day. Have a lovely weekend!

  10. It sounds as though you have had a week that we would describe as "having a day" which means that it didn't have to be amazing, as long as it wasn't bad. Just being is a good thing isn't it. Thank you for joining Five On Friday, I hope that you have a good weekend! xx

  12. I wish I lived in the UK so I could go visit all the thrift shops where you-all (Southern USA for all of you) are donating your de-cluttered items. I love to shop for bargains. And I'm still looking for that yellow teapot.

  13. Water for Elephants is a book I've been eyeing for awhile. Maintaining control of our possessions does take intention. It's so easy to accumulate stuff.
