At a Loss for Words!

The title of this post makes it sound so much more dramatic than it is. The simple fact is that I just don't know what to write about today! Having lazy days is all very well but doing nothing means I have nothing to tell you. I do have a couple of questions though ...

Has anyone been watching the second series of the Big Painting Challenge on BBC1 and if you have, what do you think of it this time? I've been quite disappointed with this series. I know I couldn't do any better myself, but there don't seem to be as many 'wow' moments as there were in the first series.

Does anyone have experience of growing minarette/columnar fruit trees? I'd like to get some self fertilising ones to grow in pots on the patio but am wondering how much effort is involved in maintaining the columnar growth, particularly in terms of how much annual pruning is needed.

Hope you all have a good day!

  1. I've been watching it. While I have agreed with the final 'outing', like you I am disappointed in what they are so far producing. I know I couldn't do anything like that, but I'd expect better. I think the chap with the visual impairment is pretty good and I like Anil's efforts too but generally, no.

    1. I really liked the one Jane did yesterday so was disappointed by the judges comments and that she's now out if the competition. I'm sure it was a much higher standard overall in the first series.

  2. I've not seen this series. Its always a risk of making another series if something has gone well in the first. Its such a shame its left you a little disappointed. Maybe it will pick up pace next week.

  3. I haven't seen that series on this side of the pond. Regionally there are a lot of farms planting apple trees as espalier rather than the traditional orchard, more trees per square foot, more fruit. Lazy days are sometimes the best for thoughts & reflection :)

  4. I've been watching the Painting Challenge and have several times thought raw talent to be rather thin on the ground. Also some big egos; it makes me cross when the contestants refuse to carry out or engage with the exercises set. Can't really compare with the previous series though, as I didn't follow it very closely.

  5. I don't think that series is being shown here. Not yet, anyway. Not sure how much pruning you'd have to do on the trees, either. But there might be some information available online.
