One Step Back!
It's not been the best of days! Yesterday, all three parties agreed to complete the sales/purchases on Monday 17th March, and this morning my solicitor phoned for confirmation that, if I was happy to proceed, the contracts would be exchanged today. Fast forward to this afternoon and my solicitor phoned again to say one of the other solicitors is now saying they are not ready to proceed as he is still reviewing his clients' file ... this is to do with the sale of the bungalow to me. He wants another 'few days' to be ready! I contacted the Estate Agent and they agreed to phone the sellers and ask them to put pressure on their solicitor to get his act together, but the reality is that we can't exchange until he is ready. The bungalow is a probate sale so it's not tied to the purchase of another property and, considering that the owners of the bungalow have been pushing hard for a quick sale, it's hard to believe that they are the ones who are now holding it all up!
I felt really happy last night, thinking it was all sorted, and now that nagging anxiety is back. However, on the plus side, I did get some more packing done today. The music room is now completely packed away and I'm focusing on the living room, which seems to have become a dumping ground for all the things that 'didn't quite fit' in whichever box I was packing at the time. Of course that has accumulated and needs to be addressed so that I can use that space to stack some more of the filled boxes ... Niall will move them for me at the weekend. The study is finished as well, so that leaves the bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms to do, which is a job for next week and won't take long at all. I'll pack away as much as I can and just leave out the essentials for the last few days of living in this home.
My sister is coming round tomorrow to drop off some more books ... I think she may have forgotten that I'm moving and don't really want extra stuff to pack at the moment! The books will be gratefully received, as always though, and you never knows ... I may be able to interest her in helping with the packing!
Sorry to hear that there are more delays, but, hopefully, everything will work out fine and there won't be a big delay.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the vendor’s solicitor is trying to stretch things out so as to be able to pad his fee!
