The Simple Woman's Daybook - Saturday 6th June 2015

Outside my window ... it's a lovely day - blue sky, fluffy clouds, a gentle breeze and some sunshine.
I am thinking ... that I need to get myself organised and catch up on my blog, hence this post.  It seemed to be the easiest way to kick-start me posting again.

I am thankful ... for all your kind messages, comments and emails. They were very much appreciated and, in a strange sort of way, it was nice to know I was missed!

In the kitchen ... not much is happening.  I did a quick shop during the week but I need to check the contents of the freezer and work out what I need in the way of basic meals, and then get on and do some batch cooking.

I am wearing ... a mis-match of colours - I look like a young child who's been allowed to dress herself for the first time.  I'm trying to catch up with the laundry so didn't have a lot of choice really!

I am creating ... end of year reports.  I have 175 to do; they're all started as the really time consuming bit is adding all the basic information to the blank templates and I've also added achievements, behaviour and general standard to each one.  All that's left to do is set the date of the first lesson next school year (still to be agreed with the various schools, which is why it's not done yet) and add suggestions for what they can work on during the holidays.

I am going ... to start a beginners watercolour course next week. I'm both looking forward to it, and anxious about it, in equal measures.  It's a ten week course and I'm desperately hoping that there is no homework as I have no spare time at all to fit anything else in.  I'm not a fantastic artist but am hoping to be able to produce something that is reasonably pleasant to look at.  We'll see how it goes!

I am wondering ... whether I can afford another holiday this year.  I don't know where I'd want to go or when, but feel in need of a complete break.

I am reading ... The Way Inn by Will Wiles.  I've only just started it so can't really make a comment on it, just to say that it hasn't really grabbed my attention so far.
I am hoping ...  that my energy levels soon return to normal. I feel exhausted all the time and just want to sleep.  Roll on July when term finishes!
I am looking forward to ... a long chat with friends next Saturday.  I haven't seen them for years as they've been living abroad so we have lots to catch up on.
I am learning ... to improve my photography skills.  The course I went on was amazing and I'll do another post on it in the near future.
Around the house ...  I'm thinking about what needs to be done to 'finish' the house.  Some decorating, new carpets and curtains, some new furniture and some changes in the kitchen/dining room.  During the summer break I'll work out the cost and then plan when it can be done.  I want to get it all finished while I'm still working, so part of the plan is working out when I can think about retiring.
I am pondering ... which camera to buy.  I need a new and better camera, something which became apparent on the course, but I'll tell you more about it in another post.

One of my favourite things ... breaking the seal on a new jar of coffee!
A few plans for the rest of the week ...
  • Sunday: pottering in the garden, weather permitting
  • Monday: no teaching (assessment week), so a day at home
  • Tuesday: art course in the morning, teaching in the afternoon, doctors appointment late afternoon
  • Wednesday: teaching all day
  • Thursday: no teaching, so a day at home probably cooking for the freezer
  • Friday: teaching all day
  • Saturday: band practice in the morning, meeting friends in the afternoon

A peek into my day ... this morning was the first band practice after the half term break.  I didn't want to get up as I'd had a late night (I went to see the comedian, Rich Hall, last night) but managed to pull myself together and get on with it.  I have a couple of letters to write this afternoon and then some piano practice followed by an evening relaxing at home.
A favourite quote for today ...
"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty.  Anyone who keeps learning stays young."- Henry Ford
