When Life Was Simpler

Do you remember when ....

... all the girls wore dresses?

... it took five minutes for the TV to warm up, the test card, the potter's wheel?

... nearly everyone's Mum was at home when the children came home from school?

... nobody owned a purebred dog?

... pocket money was only 2 shillings a week?

... you'd pick up a pin and say " see a pin and pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck"?

... green shield stamps?

... it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a real restaurant with your parents?

... lying on your back in the grass with your friends and saying things like, "that cloud looks like a ..."?

... playing games with no adults to help children with the rules of the game?

... there were no safety caps and hermetic seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger?

... when coca-cola came in glass bottles?

... fruit salads, black jacks and sherbet dabs?

... the Lone Ranger, Champion the Wonder Horse and Black Beauty?

... hula hoops, french skipping and kiss chase?

... sweet cigarettes, chocolate mice and five boys chocolate?

... milk was delivered to your doorstep in glass bottles?

... all the women wore pinnies?

... 'race issues' meant arguing over who ran the fastest?

... decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo"?

... it wasn't odd to have two or three 'best friends'?

... "olly-olly-oxen-free" made perfect sense?

... spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was a cause for giggles?

... the worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team?

... you pegged playing cards to the spokes of your bike wheels?

... water balloons were the ultimate weapon?

... paper dolls, spirograph and fuzzy felt?

... Dandy, Beano, Beazer and Topper comics?

... Bunty, Judy and Jackie comics?

Do you remember when the grass was green, the sky was blue and summer lasted for ever?  Take a break from your 'grown-up' life and share a childhood memory with me .... go on .... I double-dare you!

  2. I remember most of those things, and then some...like playing jacks, jumping rope, playing house, playing with dolls, the Candy Fashion doll, The Sky King Tv show, Lassie. I remember penny candy, where you sometimes got 2 for 1. I remember buying 25 cents worth of candy, and being able to share it with 2-3 friends, and it could pretty much last all day. It was a much simpler time, when neighbors looked out for one another, and we found enjoyment in the simplest of things. You really brought back memories!
