25/365: What's This?
This raggedy looking plant is behind the garage, looking quite healthy but needing to be knocked into shape. It will need to be moved from its current position if it is going to stay but first of all I want to know what plant it is. My best guess is rosemary but as I have no sense of smell I can't tell for sure.
Anyone know, please?
I was going to guess rosemary also. Perhaps next time you have guests they can confirm!
ReplyDeleteI would agree with rosemary. X
ReplyDeletegently rub one of the green bits between your thumb and finger and then sniff your fingers. If it smells like a kitchen where roast lamb is being prepared then it is Rosemary. If it smalls kind of herby but not like roast lamb then it might be Hyssop which is grown for its flowers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyssopus_officinalis
ReplyDeleteI I think it is Rosemary though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosemary
Thanks for the suggestion but it won't help me. I lost my sense of smell years ago so will never be able to detect any scent, unfortunately.
DeleteHi Eileen, looking at it in the picture I would have said Rosemary too but I am definitely no expert. I do love Rosemary and the flavour it gives to potatoes. I hope someone can point you in the right direction. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like Rosemary, does it have tiny blue flowers in the summer? The legend is that Mary laid her cloak on a Rosemary bush, and that is why the colour is called Mary Blue

That's a lovely story. I don't remember any flowers but that doesn't mean there weren't any. I only moved in towards the end of August and didn't take a lot of notice of the garden to start with.
