Me on Monday
Me on Monday is ...
... feeling more upbeat after an upsetting Sunday. My neighbour again! This time she put a note through my door pretending she wasn't sure whether I was expecting a meal from her on Christmas Day. I cried ... tears of frustration that there didn't seem to be a way of stopping her. Anyway, this time I responded in writing, quite a stern letter, confirming that, as she well knew, I had declined her offer and considered her behaviour to be bullying, ending with a request that she leave me alone from now on. I wasn't confident that it would work but I felt better after I'd put my feelings in writing. She responded in writing later last night, apologised for upsetting me and tried to say that she was just making sure I knew I will have to sort out my own meal on Christmas Day - all nonsense, but I do feel more hopeful that this is the end of it. Sometimes, calling a bully out on their behaviour actually works!
... resisting the urge to eat all the Christmas goodies! I received my food delivery yesterday; there were lots of substitutions this time but all were acceptable and I have plenty of meal choices and treats for the festive days.
... looking forward to the virtual choir concert tonight. We've been asked to wear red and black, which is the dress code for our normal concerts in church, and we have to have something festive to wear as well. I can't find my Santa hat and don't have anything else appropriate so will make something out of tinsel today.
... feeling frustrated by the changes to the Christmas arrangements in the UK. I'm not affected by the additional restrictions but some of my friends are and it's heartbreaking for them.
... looking ahead to next year and thinking about what I want to do and achieve during the year. So far I've only thought about the easy bits, so I have almost certainly decided on a definite maybe for my One Little Word for 2021! I've settled on a reading challenge, and have a short list of goals that I'll be able to do no matter what coronavirus restrictions are in place at any given time. I'll write about them in more detail over the next few weeks.
Oh, my goodness! Some people really don't know what "No" means, do they? I hope she will not bother you, again!
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh about resisting the urge to eat all the Christmas goodies! I started on my stash, last night!
I hope you have a fun choir concert, tonight. Your Christmas restrictions were in the news here, too. I feel really bad for the people who have their holiday plans dashed. As for 2021, I haven't even thought about it, yet! I'll do that after Christmas!
I truly hope she leaves me alone from now on. You're allowed to start your Christmas stash early now your daughter has joined the house party.
DeleteA couple of my friends are affected. We all understand that it is necessary but the way in which it's been done has upset people. I think it's cruel to announce a 5 day relaxing of the rules and then take it away when they were aware of the growing numbers and new strain of the virus before they decided on the initial arrangements.
She is either extremely think and socially inept or - as you say - she's a bully and trying it on with you as her victim. Well done for taking the bull by the horns - it's never easy to do that and I very much admire you for taking the action you did. I'm hoping she will shut up now.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard when there are so many goodies in the house. Sending you strong, resisting vibes. :-)
xx
I think she believes she is being kind but it's clear she is/was only interested in how it made her feel. I also don't think she understands the seriousness of food allergies. I have this awful feeling that I can expect at least one more attempt as she tries to explain that she's not a bully!
DeleteI'm staying strong in resisting the goodies so far ... but it is still less than 24 hours since they were delivered 🤣🤣
Fingers crossed that is the end of it all (the neighbour). Good on you for calling out her bullying, not an easy thing to do. As I said, I hope that is the end of it.
ReplyDeleteYesterday, I had a day when I just couldn't stop eating! I eyed up the chocolate goodies but restrained myself and ate grapes instead! Merry Christmas to you Eileen.
I hope so too! I'm managing to be good so far - I made a fresh fruit salad and that helped steer me away from the chocolates!
DeleteI am glad to read that you have sorted your less than friendly neighbour. I wonder what she is like with family, friends & other neighbours. I know for us with Christmas treats in the house, the Borg seem to chant in my head "resistance is futile, resistance is futile..." so this year we bought only 1 small box of truffle treats & I have baked in very limited numbers. I look forward to reading more about your 2021 plans.
ReplyDeleteIn her own way J think she is being friendly. It's attention that I don't want at all and will continue to resist in the future.
DeleteI went a bit crazy on the goodies this time but they are mostly savoury rather than sweet. They're for the Twelve Days of Christmas so I will be okay once we get to the 25th.
Are you making any plans for 2021?
Nothing planned as yet. I don't seem to be able, so far, to have OLW settle on me. Today I am feeling really over whelmed with it all - COVID, Christmas, Lock Downs. So a day of some pampering; On goes the Christmas music, finding some funny uTubes to laugh at, a nap is planned, playing with Christmas papers for scrapping, all things to take me out of myself.
DeleteA pamper day sounds perfect. I have a Harry Potter film fest to look forward to in the days between Christmas and New Year 😁😁
DeleteEnjoy your choir tonight.. and so pleased for you that you have been able to convince your neighbour you're ok to cook your own dinner.
ReplyDeleteThanks Chris. I'm hoping that my neighbour will leave me alone from now on ... time will tell!
DeleteI'm sorry you had to be so firm. Your original refusal was clear and should've been firm enough. Maybe she's got the idea now and won't push anymore. I somehow forgot all about my reading challenge and can't even remember the last month I did it. Bit late to catch up now lol! The Christmas treats are irresistible, aren't they. We picked up Christmas candy at the grocery today, and we got plenty. I think... ;)
ReplyDeleteStay strong! You can resist the candy until the big day.
DeleteI'm trying the challenge again this year. I need to make more effort to focus on it and keep it going this year.
That neighbour of yours sounds like quite a challenge! I hope you dealt with her for good. Ack. I'm glad (for now) my neighbours are all quite nice and quiet and keep to themselves lol
ReplyDeleteI think my letter has worked as she's definitely left me alone since she read it.
