Some Social Interaction

Yesterday was a lovely day, perfect for socialising, which is exactly what I did! I visited Joy in the morning, had a lovely cake and a chat, bought a selection of greetings cards from her stock, and was sent on my way just after midday ... I'd lost track of the time so it was just as well as it meant I'd then be on time for meeting J later on. We'll see each other again during February to meet up and take some photos, weather permitting.

I arrived at J's house at the agreed time but she was caught up in a Zoom call for her work and couldn't open the door to let me in, so I sat in her garden for a while taking photos of the sky against the angles of the buildings ... nothing special, but it kept me amused while I waited. I eventually withdrew to the warmth of my car until J was able to get away and we headed off towards the town centre but just as we reached the main pedestrian area J took a phone call from her son in law who needed to borrow her car. I'd parked behind her so was blocking her car  in so one quick decision later and we'd bought hot drinks to go and were on our way back to J's home with me congratulating myself on at least getting my daily walk completed and out of the way. After a quick game of music cars we were settled in J's home, heating turned up, and catching up with all our news. We're meeting again next week for lunch.

In the evening I played a couple of (online) games of canasta with N, who I met at the U3A canasta group. He phoned me and we chatted throughout the games with him giving me tips and generally helping out. I really enjoyed the games and we've said we'll do it again next week ... the score is 1 to N and 1 to me so the next game is the decider!

After that, I'd just settled down to read and I had a long text from one of my cousins about the family tree. We're related through my Dad's side of the family and I don't know her that well, but we've tentatively arranged to do a Zoom meeting together with her son and her sister next week to talk about how we can make some progress on that side of the family tree. In the meantime I'm hoping that she is able to track down some of the family BDM certificates which she's knows are around somewhere, just not where, but which hopefully will give us the one bit of information we need to get through the brick wall we've all currently hit in our research. Whatever happens, a joint effort is promising and hopefully will reveal the info we all need.

Today it the inaugural meeting of the U3A Creative Yarns group. I think we will actually get to do some crochet but the aim of today's meeting is to share ideas of the sort of things we'd like to do and how we all see the group working.

That's the only thing in the diary for today so, apart from piano practice, I have a free day. J gave me some more jigsaw puzzles yesterday, so I'll probably make a start on one of those and she also loaned me a Lee Child book so I can make a start on that as well. It should be a good day!

  1. Sounds like you had a fun day, yesterday, even if there was a slight change in plans due to J's son-in-law needing to borrow her car. I hope you have a wonderful day, today, too, and the first meeting of the yarn group goes well! Hope you'll share how it went, later. :)

    1. Thanks Joy. We could have done with you there, i.e. someone else who knows how to crochet so could have helped the bewildered ones! xx

    1. I wouldn't say I've actually 'mastered' it yet as I can't keep an even tension but I can produce a granny square of sorts so am counting it as a win! xx

  4. What a social day yesterday was for you with lots of things to chat about with friends. Life renewing itself into pre-Covid times :) Hopefully lots of tips & tricks to be picked up today at the yarn meeting.

    1. Life is picking up again and bearing more resemblance to pre-Covid time, although I am making a conscious effort to slow things down a little and have no plans to be rushing around like I used to.

It was a good yarn meeting and the basics of the granny square has clicked for me at long last! xx
