Thursday

It's always the way! Just when I thought I'd decided on taking the rest of the decluttered items to auction, a leaflet in yesterday's mail has made me stop and think. One of the issues with selling on eBay is the need to go to the Post Office to send the parcels, which I want to avoid doing, but now it seems that the Royal Mail is offering a home collection service for parcels. I'll carry on photographing everything as I'll need the photos whichever option I choose, but will have a think about the pros and cons of each option.

I've abandoned any attempts to get the bulbs planted and it will have to wait until I sort out a replacement gardener. My body is telling me to stop ... this time it was a nosebleed.

Today, will be a pottering sort of day. I have some photos to take, a letter to finish writing to a friend, and will need to spend some time in the kitchen as there are some mushrooms which need to used up. That's it though, so the rest of the day will be filled with fun things, probably family tree, reading, and Italian grammar.

  1. Check out the price for that service Eileen. It was about £10-£15 for a one-off collection when I asked last November. I went to the Post Office instead! Of course if you've lots to sell then it may still be worthwhile to avoid the trip.

    1. Thanks Amanda. I've looked on the website and tried one of their quotes and you're right, it is an expensive service. I'll be sticking to the auction house to sell.

  2. Yes, it does sound like your body is telling you to take it easy and rest. Hope you have a quiet, restful day.

    1. Thanks Bless. I've decided to take it easy until after my eye appointment next week.

  3. Sounds like an easy day is definitely called for. Console yourself with the thought that you are well ahead with bulb planting.

    1. I'm doing my best to slow down! I'm hoping to speak to my doctor or optician later just to set my mind at rest.

The bulbs have been put out of sight so I'm not tempted to carry on and plant them

    2. Good move on both accounts.

  4. Very wise to delay the planting until you find someone else. Health needs to come first. xx

    1. It's just frustrating that I can't do something as simple as planting some bulbs! But you're right ... health is more important. xx

  5. Not good about the nose bleed. Maybe a neighbour could help with planting some of the bulbs, maybe an enticement of a few bulbs. That sounds like an excellent home service from the post office, but as Amanda pointed out it could be a premium type of service, would it be worth it in the end.

You reminded me I need to put mushrooms on my grocery list - I just found a delicious sounding cream of mushroom soup recipe.

    1. I really don't want to ask my neighbour for help on this when it can easily wait. If the potential new gardener isn't interested in taking on the work then I will ask family or friends to help out.

  6. Just like you, I need to get a bunch of things listed on eBay as our package rates are going up substantially in October through the holidays. That means I will need to compare the increased commercial rate on eBay to the retail customer rate at the post office after the change. That sounds like too much work, so I did start some listing early this a.m.

We are lucky that there is a little "country" post office just a couple of miles from us, so there is rarely another person there when I pop in. They've done it up with lots of plexiglass too (not pretty, but effective) so I feel completely safe. We can currently get package pickup for free, but our mail lady is already so stressed with COVID, that I don't have the heart to give her more work. She'd have to drive up the lane to the house, instead of just dropping mail at the box on the road at the end of the lane. Anything that I cannot sell will be boxed up for the church rummage sale that will probably wait till next spring. This may truly be the end of decluttering that I've been doing for more than 3 years.

Do take care, nosebleeds are often symptoms of high blood pressure. I know because I am prone to those too.

    1. I have high blood pressure but it was checked a few days before and is in the correct range. I'm prone to them so not too worried, but will speak to the doctor as requested.

I've decided to stick to the easy option of taking everything to be sold at auction!

  7. Back in the day I had family members who wanted some things, and I just gave them to whoever wanted them. Otherwise, I ended up donating everything. It was just more than I wanted to do to arrange for selling things.

I am sorry the gardener issue is taking so long to work out :(

    1. The family have already had everything they want. I have donated lots of stuff but what's left will realise a goodly sum of money, enough for a new car at least, so I can't afford to let that go.

I'm hopeful that the garden issue will be resolved tomorrow.

    2. I've never gotten rid of anything of enough value to make it worthwhile offering it for sale.

    3. This is mostly my late partner's stuff. I don't know what half of it is which is another reason it is going to the auction house!
