Well the shopping trip was a success and we were able to get all the items on Miss H's stationery list ... I was expecting it to be really expensive but in the end it was only £4 more than I paid for Miss C's haul two years ago. I also treated her to a few extra things and bought some replacement items for Miss C as well as treating myself to a couple of genealogy magazines.
They came back to my house afterwards and I got Miss C started on creating her maternal grandfather's family tree. Luckily it's not a common surname so it was easy to find the details and she's already back to her 4x great grandfather. She's really excited and I'm pleased that she has an interest in genealogy so will encourage her as much as I can.
Today is set aside to sew the name tags on their school uniforms ... there's loads of it this year but I want to get it all done and out of the way as soon as possible.
I used to hate sewing name tapes on clothes but any other way didn't work.
ReplyDeleteObviously, so did Mum, because when I was old enough, I had to sew my own on not something I enjoyed but you could lose house points for unlabelled property so . . .
Annoyingly, I don't remember the boys having to sew their name tapes on their stuff. Different times.

It's a tedious task but it only took me an afternoon to get it done. Our brothers wouldn't have been asked either 😂 xx
DeleteHopefully your help will whet Miss C's appetite to explore her family tree much further, it's so much easier with the internet now than it was years ago. I mostly bought iron on labels for my children's school clothes but they didn't stay stuck down for long if I remember rightly.

I hope they remember. Certainly my nieces and nephews remember their stationery shopping trips fondly.

So glad the shopping trip was a success! It's good that it wasn't too much more. lol at the label ironing. I remember Mum doing that.
ReplyDeleteWe managed to get everything so that was a relief. I was expecting it to be a lot more expensive so the actual cost was a pleasant surprise. The labels are finished but sewn on, not ironed. ☺️
DeleteYou have a strong will - I never come home with less than a truckload of stationery. It's wonderful to have that interest in the family. It can give a huge sense of belonging.
ReplyDeleteI could quite happily have bought the entire stock but the shopping trip was Miss H's special day so the focus was on her.
