Wednesday

Yesterday was all about decluttering and sales. I managed to place some more adverts and have packed up the item I sold on eBay ready to be posted as soon as the buyer pays. The two cash on collection sales have been completed so those items have now left the house as well. I'm fairly sure I have looked at everything now and decided on the best way to dispose of each item so will start collecting up the rest of the things destined for a charity shop, which will clear some more space. I'm still doing my one item a day challenge throughout September, starting in the kitchen/dining room - today's item is a plastic measuring jug that I never use.

It's feeling very autumnal. The nights are colder and I've put the warmer duvet on the bed. The days don't feel that much warmer and I keep feeling cold so I suppose it's time to look out some warmer clothes. I don't want to put the heating on yet!

I have the nutrition club and the style class to look forward to today. L and J are both being cautious because of the things they have been doing (holidays and parties!) so we won't be meeting up this week and it'll be phone catch ups instead, hopefully with L today.

There are a few bits to do around the house and garden but my priority for the day is to sort out my laptop. It's playing up so if I disappear for a few days it'll be because it has given up completely. For starters I'll move all my photos to an external hard drive which will free up a huge chunk of storage space. I don't think this will completely resolve the issues but it needs to be done anyway and from there I can decide what to do next. It's a job that's long overdue and I'm sure my other nephew will come to the rescue if needed! I've been thinking about replacing it but now that the garden fence is being replaced this year, the laptop has to last me for another year at least.

  1. I hope your laptop will be OK!

Well done on the decluttering and selling the items! I called for and scheduled a charity pick up for September 20 (the earliest they could do), which will give me a bit more time to gather a few more items to donate! I, too, will continue to declutter in Sept. :)

Too bad L and J won't be coming around to see you in person, but, it is probably best to be cautious, right now. Enjoy the phone visits.

Have a lovely day, Eileen. :)

    1. My laptop has been sorted so I'm hoping it will last for another year or so.

I'm planning on asking for a charity pick up later this month. They will only collect if the donation includes furniture or large electricals so I will donate the unwanted bookcase in the garage as soon as I have all the boxes of other donation packed up.

I'd rather be cautious as I will be seeing Baby R soon - it's his 1st birthday at the weekend - and I don't want to take any risks with him.

  2. I do hope your laptop will be OK as you'll need it for your online piano lessons and the courses you follow and you rely on it so much. Well done on your sales and the decluttering. It definitely feels autumnal and it was so lovely and warm just a few days ago. I'm hoping for an Indian summer because most of our August weather was not good at all. Enjoy your day.

    1. Yes, the laptop is an essential piece of equipment now. I have managed to sort it out and am hopeful that it will be fine for the next year. I can always ask my nephew or one of my late partner's friends to look at it if necessary but I think it'll be fine for now. It's the piano lessons starting next week that pushed me into sorting out the issues now.

  3. Yeah to the sales! I got a first time message on my desk top computer - to replace the battery! Which I did & now it seems to be moving just a little quicker (phew, no budget for replacement). Probably moving your photos off the computer is a safe thing to do. Good luck with that. :)

    1. I have all my photos backed up anyway. I do that regularly but I'm not good at removing the original files from the laptop so they were taking up a lot of space. It's all sorted now though so I will have to be more disciplined in the future!

  4. I think you are doing brilliantly with your de -cluttering and e-baying. Well done. You may well find you don't need to consider this after you've taken the photos off your current laptop, but I have been happy with a refurbished laptop I bought off a company that specialises in refurbished who sell on e-bay. I think it was about £150, it's a Dell and works fine for my simple needs.
    Have a good week.J.P.

    1. Thank you. For now I've sorted out the issue with the laptop and it's fine so there's no immediate panic. I usually buy Dell but have always bought new but maybe refurbished is something to consider for the future. Thanks for the suggestion.

  5. Well, yours is the second post today with a reminder to back up photos, etc. on the computer. I am at least 3 months past due on that particular chore. Better get to it! I will join in with you and Bless, on the daily de-cluttering, not only to clear things up a bit, but I can make a weekly blog post out of it to help me get back in the swing of blogging. There are a few more things I could put on eBay. I like the new way they are doing pay-outs - it simplifies the bookkeeping. And these days, I like simple.

    1. Glad to have you along for the daily decluttering and if it helps you with a blog post, so much the better.

I'm good at doing the regular back ups, just not very good at removing the original photos from the laptop when they are using up all the storage space!
