In the garden ...

... the cosmos has been disappointing this year but they are still flowering, just not as prolific as in previous years. They're still on the list for next year though.

I had a lovely time yesterday. Both online classes were interesting and the piano lesson was great fun. I don't think I played as well as in the previous lessons but enough to show some progress. I also had a long chat with neighbour C and, after speaking to N and T to explain that I was feeling anxious about joining a big group of people, they called round for a kerbside chat on their way home instead.

The style class continued with body shape but looking at the proportions of your body (short, tall, long waisted, etc.) and how to achieve balance when putting an outfit together. It's complicated (!) so I'm not going to try to explain it here but this article covers what we discussed today.

Best of all was managing to book a long overdue consultation with my doctor; at the start I was told there were absolutely no appointments available but when I pointed out that my blood tests were now over two months late and couldn't be arranged without speaking to the doctor, I was given a telephone consultation with my own GP at 9 am this morning! I'm hoping he will book the bloods appointment while I'm on the phone to him.

It's the Indian cookery class today and the recipe is Dal Makhani, which I'm not familiar with so I'm looking forward to that. This class is the only thing in the diary so, as it's supposed to be a rain free day, I'll be going out for a walk as soon as I've spoken to my doctor and hopefully I'll be able to spend some time with Baby R later this afternoon.

  1. The cosmos flower is a beautiful color! Thank you for posting the link about body proportions. I need to do what is suggested and measure, but, as far as I am concerned, I am just short! Like the teapot in the song, I'm "short and stout"! :D

I'm glad you were able to get an appointment for a phone consultation with your doctor! Hopefully, the blood tests order can be issued right away. I am still waiting for my clinic to email me the duplicate lab order for me! I think I might have to call them, again, tomorrow.

Hope you have a lovely day and enjoy spending time with Baby R!

    1. I'm the same as you, short and stout, and find clothes shopping difficult as a result.

Yes, I'm having bloods taken tomorrow and will see the doctor in person next week. I hope you can get your lab order sorted out.

  2. I'm glad you are having the telephone consultation with your GP today, I hope it goes well and he books your overdue blood tests. It's so annoying that we can't see our GP's fave to face anymore I do wonder why our GPs are making life so difficult for us. I think I mentioned previously I had one telephone consultation with a GP who actually told me she was working from home. Have a good day today, seeing the baby will be nice.

    1. I've just spoken to my doctor. Blood tests are tomorrow first thing and I have a face to face appointment next Thursday to discuss the results and for him to examine my knee which is now permanently swollen.

I don't understand why the GP service hasn't returned to normal. It's frustrating and I really dislike that the decision on whether you can have an initial appointment to see your doctor is taken by the admin staff who run the appointments system.

  3. Lovely red cosmos. I had better luck with mine that grew in the actual garden dirt rather than the pots & as they are now finishing & going to seed, I am collecting a fair number of the seeds for next year. Great to read that you did talk with your doctor. I know this side of the pond that we are being told doctor's will not be giving up the phone first consultations that came out of the pandemic. Apparently it's cheaper for the health care system but they had not thought it entirely through - the walk in clinics & emerg centres are overly busy now. IMO I think many illnesses will go undetected or go on too long until seen to. Thanks for the style link. This has re-acquiring wardrobe & body knowledge has been fun.

    1. I'm relieved to have spoken to him and he has ordered extra tests based on what we discussed. I'm okay with telephone consultations and I think the current system probably eliminates a lot of the time wasters but it does make it difficult for the ones who are in need of medical support. I'm sure a lot of illnesses will no longer be detected as early as they should.

The style sessions are fascinating. There's a lot more to it that I previously thought but I'm not sure that I will implement a lot of what is being said. I can't see me ever reaching the stage where I plan every single outfit to the level of detail mentioned in these classes, but I can see that I can improve on my current wardrobe with a bit of thought.

  4. I will definitely take a look at the style article you referenced. I get frustrated with most of those advice guides, because in the end it is really how skinny you are that matters given most of today's styles. I have been watching lots of videos on doing a capsule wardrobe. I can see that being of great benefit especially if I stick to very classic pieces.

It is too bad it is such a hassle to still get an appointment with your GP. Over here, blood tests are run as routine a week before most GP check-up appointments, so the doctor has the results before your appointment. And although, knock on wood, we have not had much need for follow-up blood work, that has always been scheduled timely as well. I guess I shouldn't take our health system for granted, it is expensive, but it does work well generally.

    1. I'm hoping to end up with a capsule wardrobe that is practical for my lifestyle. The advice given about proportions is something that I will make use of as, in yesterday's class, the advice on achieving balance and making the most of the bits of body you like actually 'clicked' and I was able to see how I can use that to my advantage.

Despite the negative stories in the press, I think the NHS continues to provide an excellent service. The main issue is that, compared to pre-Covid days, it is not as easy to get a face to face appointment with the GPs. I think the new style service will end up being more efficient but there has been no attempt as far as I'm aware to notify the general public how to make best use that service.

    1. Thanks Ailime. Everything is going well even if not quite as I planned ... little tweaks are making it work out for me.
