228/365: one of the new dahlias

Well, there was a distinct lack of rain for most of yesterday, plenty of thunder but no rain, until 7pm when it rained just about long enough to excuse me from watering duties! I went up to bed so don't know how long it rained for in the end as I fell asleep straight away ... best way to get rid of a migraine! There's a yellow weather warning in place today for thunderstorms and flash flooding.

I got my shopping done early but didn't think it through properly so I was too early for the library to be open and I couldn't be bothered to wait. That'll be something for another day. I did have a very good day working on my family tree and have been able to fill in quite a bit more information on my paternal grandmother's line.

I'm tackling the washing today, possibly three loads, and also want to wash the downstairs floors. As soon as that's done I can carry on with the family tree research. There's no personal training as Amy is on holiday so I'll fit in a selection of the exercises at home to make up for missing the session.

  1. You're fortunate to have had some rain, none here apart from a few spots during the morning. Best way to stay at home working on your family tree, it's what I did over the weekend. I don't like the sound of the weather forecast for today.

    1. One of my new DNA matches has filled in some of the gaps in our shared branch of the family tree and that has generated lots of hints to work through ... it's all coming together nicely.

We had rain overnight and it's been drizzling all morning so far but we're forecast to be hit by a thunderstorm this afternoon. I hope you get some rain your way soon. xx

  2. We had some rain overnight too - not loads but everywhere has cooled down now, thankfully. Have a good day. xx

    1. Yes, it's much cooler here today as well. What rain we've had so far has cleared the air and the mugginess has gone, thank goodness. I hope you have a good day too xx

  3. It's raining here, I hope it does not stop, we need the wet stuff, last storm we had was in June and only a light sprinkle in July.

    1. It rained overnight and has been drizzling all morning. Hopefully we'll get a really good downpour if/when the storm arrives this afternoon. I need the water butts to refill and I'm sure you do too. xx

  4. We had about five spots of rain yesterday and a little more this morning, but we also need a downpour as our 3 water butts are low. Not to mention what we call the animal pond on the moor as that doesn't even have mud any more but is cracked and dry. Sorry to hear you had a migraine, are you affected with food? Hope you feel better today. Helen S.

    1. Yes, my triggers are various foods, the weather and some strong smells, like someone wearing too much perfume. The difficulty being that some of these are things I have no control over.

We've had steady rainfall for most of the day, though not the heavy storms we were promised. I hope you've had the same too.

  5. That is surely part of the joy of having a personal trainer, that you can carry on with the exercises in her absence ... or maybe it's not as then you don't have any reason to miss out on doing (lol). Very pretty dahlia. Glad that sleep helped with the migraine.

    1. Quite a few of the resistance exercises needs two of us or to use the weights/pulley system that Amy has so there's only a few exercises I can do on my own at home. I had good intentions of doing some exercises today but failed miserably and only managed my daily walk.

Unfortunately i have another migraine starting ... it must be due to the weather.

  6. Family trees are fascinating. My brother has gone back a few hundred years and still hasn't found a single ancestor who cared what the neighbours thought. I'm glad that your migraine cleared - fingers crossed that there isn't any flooding near you.

    1. We're free from flooding as far as I know, thankfully. The other end of the village may flood but that's a regular occurrence and won't affect where I live at all.

Family trees are fascinating and a great way of passing the time. I get really engrossed in it all and am always surprised at how much time has passed without me realising.

  7. Lovely dahlia! Beautiful coloring.

Sorry to hear that you are having migraines again; yes, probably due to the weather. Glad you got some rain! Um, does that mean that you took Mary-Lou's suggestion about doing a rain dance? :D

    1. It's very pretty isn't it. I have three of these dahlias in the garden.

I'm sure this latest round of migraines is to do with the weather. I'll be glad when we have a really good storm to clear the air. Don't worry, I can assure you that I didn't do the rain dance ... I can't speak for Mary-Lou though 😂

  8. Glad you had some rain at least. I find sometimes sleeping is the only thing that gets rid of a migraine. Hope you feel better!

    1. Thanks Sharon. I agree that sleep is often the only thing that clears a migraine. I'll keep getting them now until we have a really heavy downpour or a proper storm ... let's hope that's sooner rather than later.
