122/365: yesterday the heavens gifted us some much needed rain

I want to spend an hour or so this morning faffing about in the garage. The storage shelves were moved to their new positions on Friday and I've reorganised everything that's stored on them - the wooden shelving unit just inside the side door now holds all the gardening odds and ends and the small metal  cupboard holds the stuff for the car. Today I want to move all the other items that I'll eventually sell over to the new workbench, partly so that it's all in one place but also to create some space for tomorrow as S is coming round to help take the remaining items to the recycling yard. There are two pieces of furniture which are the problem items for me to deal with as they're too big for my car and too heavy to lift on my own anyway. I've tried advertising them on Freecycle but there's been no interest, the charity shops don't want them and it costs too much to ask the council to collect them, so S will take them to the recycling yard in his car. Then I'll just be left with the remaining pots to sort out so I'm still on target to have the garage sorted out by this weekend.

It's a Bank Holiday but I haven't arranged to do anything special today. I know I should make more effort otherwise every day feels the same now I'm retired, but there wasn't anything on locally that I fancied and the weather hasn't been playing nicely either ... typical Bank Holiday, cold and wet! So after I've had enough in the garage it'll be the usual Italian and piano practices, and then carry on reading - Fair Warning by Michael Connelly. I don't think there's anything on TV that I want to watch so will probably have my nose stuck in a book for the rest of the day!

  1. I never venture out on a Bank Holiday, too much traffic as I live on the coast and I can't be doing with sitting in traffic jams. That's good of your neighbour to take your unwanted items to the recycling yard for you. It'll be good to have your garage all sorted by the weekend.

    1. That's understandable, and I'd completely forgotten about bank holiday traffic jams! My neighbour has been absolutely brilliant. I doubt I could have managed with the garage reorganisation without his help as so much of the stuff is just too heavy for me. Apart from a final shift round, the garage is finished ... see tomorrow's post.

  2. That sounds very encouraging to have the garage just on the tip of completed. I notice the change of appearance of your blog - well done you.

    1. There's one last shift round of the storage and it's all done ... S came round this morning to help.

The new blog look is something I've wanted to do for months but hadn't bothered to get on and do it, so another thing I've been tolerating has been ticked off the list. 😊

  3. We never go out on the Bank holiday as where we live is a tourist area, far too much traffic. Hope you get the rest of the garage sorted. On our list to do is the shed as it badly needs sorting, we are waiting for warmer weather and I think we will need a few trips to the recycling yard. Have a relaxing Bank holiday. Helen S.

    1. I'd forgotten about the traffic jams on a bank holiday! Maybe I should just stick to a nice meal at home with friends.

The garage is all finished but we've decided to move the storage round to make better use of the space. That won't take long and will be done on Thursday or Friday.

Hope you enjoyed your Bank Holiday and good luck when you do decide to tackle the shed.

  4. The thing about people like us is that we can arrange specials and jollies when there are fewer people around - suits me perfectly!

No rain here - it just looked as if it would. xx

    1. That's true. Maybe what I really need to be doing is arranging for more jollies!

It tried to rain earlier on but hasn't come to anything. Still looks like it could pour down before the day is out though. xx

  5. Me likes the new look! Very fresh and clean! Have you blitzed the labels list or are they somewhere else?

Lucky you, getting some decent rain. We had light drizzle for about an hour but not enough to soak the garden. Bet the garage clearance feels very liberating. S sounds like a wonderful neighbour. (Did his wife give you any good tips for gifts in the end?)

    1. Thanks, glad you like it. The labels list is still there - click on the three little horizontal lines at the top of the page on the left of the blog name and another menu appears. The lists of previous posts, labels, followers etc can be accessed via that menu.

We had rain yesterday morning and during the night ... just what the garden needed. The garage clearance does indeed feel very liberating. S is amazing and today has offered to do some more stuff for me to make it easier for me to do some photography in the garage. I haven't spoken to his wife yet but will do soon.

  6. Those snowdrops look beautiful - and it's May! Sometimes you have to take a moment to recharge. The garage will be great when it's finished.

    1. They're summer snowflakes, so are a lot bigger than snowdrops. This one flowered much later than the rest ... all the others have given up for this year!

The garage is all but finished, just another shift around and that'll be it 😊

  7. Well done on getting the garage almost finished! You'll meet your deadline of this weekend!
No bank holiday here, but, every day is a holiday for me! :D I'm just doing regular Monday stuff - laundry, some housework, etc.

    1. It feels so good to have reached this stage at this time, considering I didn't plan to start on the garage until I'd finished in the house! Of course, I still have the house to finish off but that's another story 😊
