227/365: does anyone know what the white flower is please?

So the big question for today ... is it going to rain or not? I've been awake since 4am and the forecast at that time is promising rain all afternoon, so will we be lucky or not?

Whatever the weather decides to do I need to do some shopping so I'll go out first thing, just in case they've got the forecast right for once. I had a delivery yesterday but the two items I really need were missing from the order - dairy free spread and eggs - both items apparently out of stock and no suitable substitutions available! I also want to visit the library and borrow a selection of cook books. I'm looking for different meal ideas, especially vegetarian options.

When I get back I have a couple of financial things to sort out and then the rest of the day is free to fill as I fancy, so it'll most likely be a mix of reading and family tree research ... I have a couple of new DNA matches that look quite promising.

  1. Is the flower a white phlox?
Well, the answer to your question is - no rain in So Cal! LOL. But, I do hope you get some rain in the afternoon as forecast!
I hope you have a successful shopping trip and find the spread and the eggs you need and find lots of cook books at the library, too.
Have a lovely day and start to your week, Eileen. :)

    1. It looks very similar to some of the white phlox plants but I think Joy's suggestion of a variety of verbena is correct.

My shopping trip was successful but I was too early for the library and couldn't be bothered to wait for it to open so I'll try again another day.

Sadly we've only had just under one minute of raindrops today, so not quite the downpour I was hoping for. Maybe we'll get more tomorrow. xx

  2. I think it is a verbena - it's very pretty.
Yes, it is going to rain, definitely (said with crossed fingers).
    Have a lovely day. xx

    1. I think you're right ... it looks like it's a trailing verbena.

I hope you're having more luck than us ... it rained for just under one minute here! xx

  3. It's a very pretty flower whatever it is. My husband heard some rumbles of thunder during the night and it looks like rain here but it's still very warm. I have to go on a bus journey to hospital today so I'm hoping i don't get caught in a downpour but I do want it to rain.

    1. I think it may be a trailing verbena and yes, it is pretty.

I hope your hospital appointment went well with good results xx

  4. We try and eat meat free twice a week, I always prefer fish to meat, so often I only have meat a couple times a week, and mainly chicken. I could go meat free, but roast dinners and bacon, oh how I would miss them.

    1. I'm trying to eat meat free every other day but I don't currently have enough recipes to keep it interesting with plenty of variety.

Roast chicken dinner and bacon sandwiches for breakfast are regulars on the menu ... I have no intention of giving them up!! xx

  5. If it doesn't rain, maybe we can on both sides of the big pond, start with some naked rain dancing! OK maybe not naked, we do want the heavens to open with rain not retreat in shock! Hope you are successful in your errands. Your pretty white flower could be verbena hybrid.

    1. It hasn't rained so far (I'm not count the one minute of rain this morning) but I don't think the world, or my neighbours, is ready to see me doing a naked rain dance 😂😂 I'll keep an eye on the weather in your area ... if it rains I'll know what you've been up to 😂😂

  6. I'll second Bless's guess of Phlox. Depends on the leaves also. Andrea

    1. Thanks Andrea. After looking at lots of photos on Google I think Joy's suggestion of verbena is right but will check with M (the gardener) next time she's here and will report back.

  7. No real rain here, and I'm feeling desperate. I'm not sure what the plant is, but it's very pretty. I hope your day goes well - reading is a good form of self care.

    1. My reading mojo has returned so I am indulging it as much as I can. There's nothing better than losing yourself in a good story.

We had some rain yesterday and more is promised today. It's nowhere near enough so far. I hope you get your share soon. xx

  8. Maybe try looking up vegetarian meals online?

    1. I do that from time to time and can usually find something that I fancy. I was aiming for something that didn't involve screen time, that's all

    1. I got the shopping done but was too early for the library to be open. The shopping was the most important so I'm happy to have that done and out of the way.

  10. Beautiful flower. We had a very short downpour last night and some steady rain today - but no storms. Still, I am grateful. I went even went out in the dark and manually filled every vessel I could find (from the overflow off the butt). Did the same today and chucked bucketfuls over some of the shrubs, including two fuchsias which look as if they may be on their last legs ... hope I have saved them. The butts are not quite full but there is more rain (supposedly) coming next week, so fingers crossed. I woke up today feeling as if a migraine was coming, but it didn't so maybe the air has cleared enough to prevent it. It certainly feels fresher at long last and I have been feeling really dozy all afternoon as a result! Deep sleep tonight, maybe. I hope your head clears soon.

    1. My water butts has refilled and I put extra containers out as well but I haven't needed to use their contents yet and we have more rain promised on each of the next three days. I hope you've managed to save your fuchsias.

I did think of you when they forecast storms as I thought you'd be having the same struggles with migraines and headaches. I hope you're feeling better soon. I'm feeling drained but pain free today (Thursday). xx
