234/365: the new table and chairs

showing the extended table

S assembled the table and chairs yesterday so, for now, the dining room is finished. The table is the perfect size for two and, in a very easy movement, the top rotates and flips over to extend it to seat four when needed. I only bought two chairs as that's plenty for everyday use and I have two other chairs I can use if I need to seat four. I knew the table top and chair seats would be a much lighter oak than the bookcase and I was thinking that I could stain them to make them darker, but now they're here and I can see them together, I don't think I will bother.

So that's another thing to tick off the list. The next big expense to focus on is replacing the up and over door on the garage, which I'm hoping I can afford to get done in October. Clearing the guttering is in hand and then everything else can wait until next year.

The forecast is for rain all day today but despite that I am going out for a walk as soon as I've taken my meds. I want to get back to walking outside every day, no excuses for the weather, just do it. I'm starting simply so the target for this week is a ten minute walk every day. I still have to decide on the route as it needs to offer more of a challenge through changing gradients and/or steps.

L is coming to lunch today so she has the honour of being the first guest to eat at the new table. I'm not cooking as L fancies a takeaway which makes it easy and I'm happy about that ... L has food allergies as well, but they're different to mine and she doesn't like spicy food either, so we are poles apart in meal choices!

I have a night of TV to enjoy, starting with an AndrƩ Rieu concert and followed by another showing of Les MisƩrables: The Staged Concert ... I know I watched it not long ago but still feel excited about another chance to see it!

  1. That looks absolutely fabulous and I agree with you on the different woods - they go together so very nicely. The whole impression is one of space and light and airiness. It's great. You must be so very pleased. xx

  2. Your new table looks just right for your room! The difference in the color of the wood doesn't matter, I think. Glad that your friend is coming over to be the first guest to sit at the new table. :) Enjoy your day!

    1. I quite like all different woods together. I was expecting the table to have more of an orange tint to it but it hasn't and I like it as it is so will leave it alone.

Thanks Bless, and hope you have a good day too xx

  4. I must say your table and chairs look very good, with plenty of space even when open. I like different colour woods in the same room, we have pine and oak and I think they look good. You must be pleased as you tick these things off your list. When we move we are getting a new dining table I had thought round instead of the oval I have now, but I am now going to think again and maybe an extending one. Helen S.

    1. Thanks Helen. I like all different woods together as well. There's plenty of choice for extended tables - round extending to oval being one of the options. I hope you find what you want xx

  5. Your table & chairs look like a perfect fit into the dining room & lifestyle. Sounds like a takeaway is a perfect fit for your lunch with L. Enjoy the out of doors walk. :)

    1. We had a great time thanks Susanne. It's the first time L has seen the finished dining room so it was nice to show it off and to christen the table with a guest. xx

  7. The table and chairs work perfectly in your room. No need to change the colour.

Not sure if it is the same in the UK as in the US, but garage doors are one the most difficult things to find here these days (supply chain issue)--waits of 6 months and longer are the norm. Some new properties have had to sell the houses with no garage door--just large sheets of plywood screwed in across the opening and a promise to install the door when available. Hope you don't run into any problems.

    1. Thanks Mary. Now I've seen it for real, I am quite happy with the colour of the wood so I won't be changing it.

I don't know what the situation is with the supply chain for garage doors. I'm hoping it isn't an issue but at least I still have the existing door in place so the garage is secure ... I just can't open the door! When I ask for quotes I will ask if there are any issues with supply. It's not something I considered so thanks for letting me know. xx

  8. Lovely table and chairs! I think the different woods enhance each other. Finding someone here to clean gutters is a challenge. You are fortunate to have that done!

    1. Thanks Celie. Most of the window cleaning companies offer gutter cleaning as well so there's plenty of choice. I just need to get it done before a hosepipe ban is enforced, which could be any minute now!

  9. Wow it looks lovely. The space looks very relaxing and inviting. I usually walk every day whatever the weather. Sometimes it gets a bit much, but sometimes on bad weather days it is really peaceful. I just try to dress for the weather!

    1. Thanks Sharon. It's a big improvement on what I had before and I'm really pleased with how it all looks.

I'm trying to get out every day first thing. I don't know whether I will manage it during the winter on icy days because of the fear of slipping and damaging my knee again, but I'll see how it goes. xx

  10. They look amazing, and they complement the bookcase, which is more important than matching. You have great taste
