237/365: petunias in one of the hanging baskets

I completely forgot I was meeting J for a meal last night but thankfully she messaged me mid morning to check so I ended up in the right place at the right time. We tried the King's Arms again and this time they were serving food so I ordered a homity pie, J had chicken fajitas, and we were able to finally use our 10% off drinks and food token. It was a good evening, the food was delicious and reasonably priced, so I'm sure we'll be going there again. It means I'll be catching up on my TV programmes today now, as well as watching the second episode of A Farm Through Time tonight.

I managed to get the meal planning finished. The shopping lists are ready for whenever I decide to get started but there's no need to hurry as I have plenty in for the next couple of weeks. I will look at starting on the batch cooking next week so that'll be the first shopping trip, probably on Sunday. I've planned X amount of breakfasts, X amount of lunches and X amount of dinners and am following Bless' idea of having a list of suggested meals for each week rather than creating a day by day meal plan.

I have a much more important shopping trip to fit in today, which is to take Miss H to buy all the items on her stationery list for senior school, something I've done for all my nieces and nephews and for all of their children. I've also offered to sew the name tags on Miss H's and her sister's uniforms ... there'll be a lot for Miss H because she has a complete change of uniform now she's off to senior school but there shouldn't be be too much for Miss C as she's been at the school for two years now, so just a few replacement items hopefully. I'll collect the uniforms when I meet them today and will get started on sewing the name tags straight away ... the new school year starts a week today.

    1. It was, and we finished up the evening back at J's home adding more dates for future get-togethers. We're thinking about eating out once a month. xx

    2. I like once a month too - it's not too much and it's not too far away. I do once a month (ish) and it works well. xx

    3. We'll have to fit in with J's work commitments but it should be possible to meet roughly once a month for a meal ... we'll see how it goes xx

  2. That's nice you had a meal out and enjoyed it but I have no idea what a homity pie is. Enjoy your shopping trip with the girls or should I say young ladies now they'll both be in senior school.

    1. They're both growing up too quickly!

This is homity pie, although I had a vegan version because of the dairy ... https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/deep-filled_homity_pie_48616

    1. I've done these two sets of uniforms ever since Miss C started school. It's a simple way of repaying some of the help that they give me throughout the year and it frees their mum up at a time she is busy preparing for her own next year of teaching.

  4. Beautiful photo. Most of my petunias are completely spent already and I am at a loss as to why!

    1. Thank you. It's a shame about your petunias. I've been lucky that all of mine have rallied and still flowering well. They're usually quite prolific at this time so I wonder what has happened to yours.

  5. Your hanging basket and the view of the garden from that angle are lovely!
So glad that J checked with you in the morning and you were able to get together for dinner!
Glad you finished the meal planning and will be trying the weekly meal options plan! I find that it works well for me (plus, I have the option of choosing something else if I want to!)
You are a lovely aunt to help your nieces and nephews and their children with their school supplies and name tags. The only time I had to sew on name tags for my daughter was when she went on a week-long camping trip with her senior class. I didn't enjoy that, at all! LOL.

    1. Thanks Bless, I attempted to get creative and find some different angles in the garden for some photos!

I'm really chuffed to have finished the meal planning. I feel much more organised than usually and I think the weekly options will work well for me.

It's such an expensive time when the children move up to senior school so I am happy to help out with the stationery and it's become a bit of a family tradition. As for sewing the name tags on, it's just a case of bringing a skill, i.e. the sewing, to the family pot and doing my bit to help out where it's wanted. It is a bit tedious so I'm not surprised you didn't enjoy it!

  6. How lovely that you do that for your neices and nephews. It makes for such a lovely time spent with you and it's something you share together. I love the photo. I like the depth of field and the way the focus in on the flowers with the garden in the background. It's lovely.

    1. Thanks re the photo.

We all enjoyed the shopping trip though I have a feeling the two girls were more excited about the chocolate I bought them!

  7. The suggested ideas for meals sounds amazing. As for stationery, that's another expense! Bear has to take in green biro pens. They are harder to find than you would think and I ended up getting a huge box from Amazon which should, hopefully, keep him going. Good luck with the name tags.

    1. The girls have to have green biros as well and we found them in good ol' WH Smiths. I finished all the name tags in a single afternoon, so that's over for another year.
