235/365: pink ivy-leafed geranium

I had a lovely time with L yesterday afternoon but she didn't stay for the evening once she knew I was planning to watch the André Rieu concert and especially when I mentioned that the Les Misérables concert was on again ... L doesn't 'do' musicals! The possibility of a hotel break was talked around but no decisions on that yet. It's something I'd like to do but don't know if I can afford it this side of Christmas, so maybe for next year. We have agreed that we'll go out for an afternoon tea soon though!

There's nothing at all in the diary for today. Personal training is cancelled due to holidays so I will do some of the exercises at home instead, and then aim to get out and take some of the photos I need for the SPSH and for my own monthly photo challenge. We didn't have much rain yesterday, just a couple of showers, and it looks like today will be the same so I shouldn't have any troubles dodging the raindrops!

R contacted me with one of those 'saw this and thought of you messages' about a Family History Open House at the Wiltshire History Centre. It's a free four hour session in September which offers help in dating photographs, suggestions for breaking through those brick walls all genealogists encounter from time to time, and offering advice of how to organise your records, etc. There's also the opportunity to meet some of the county archaeologists and hold some of the artefacts, as well as specific advice on overcoming any Ancestry issues. It should be a good session. I think it's one of the Heritage Open Day sessions so I must remember to have a look and see what else is on in this area. I also received a video of her son, my great nephew Little Man, 'reading' a story book aloud ... it was the story of Stick Man, which I don't know at all, but I could make out all the mentions of Stick Man even if I couldn't understand anything else! I recognised his version of the Postman Pat song in the second video though! 😊

  1. The Family History Open House sounds worthwhile. And I can just bet that the Little Man video was adorable.

    1. Their events are usually very good so I will be going and to make best use of the fuel will book myself in for some research in the afternoon.

The Little Man videos are so cute!

  2. I should have sent you some of our rain yesterday, Tilly and I were soaked but she loved being dried with a big fluffy towel once we were back home. The Family History Open House sounds fascinating and very worthwhile. My Ancestry subscription renewed again this month at just £5, I am thrilled to bits.

    1. Well, I'd hate for you and Tilly to get wet again so, yes please, send the rain this way.

Hopefully mine will renew at that price as well. I'll let you know. xx

    1. Thanks for the recommendation. It's his second birthday in two weeks time so I'll get him to 'read' it to me when I take his present round. xx

  4. The video sounds adorable. When bear was around 18months, we heard him 'reading' the story Bear Hunt over the monitor. He had obviously just memorised it but it was one of the cutest things that I have ever heard. The open day sounds absolutely fascinating.

    1. Little Man is two in two weeks so his 'reading' is definitely the same as Bear, i.e. his best memory of the story and not necessarily in the right order. It's so cute.

I'll be going to the open day and will write about it afterwards ☺️ xx

    1. I don't know why I haven't read them before now but will definitely deal with that omission asap. Thanks for the recommendation xx

  6. Glad you had a good lunch and afternoon spent with L; too bad she wasn't interested in staying to watch and listen to the musical programs you had planned for the evening. :)
Glad, too, you are getting some rain.
Hope you have a good time taking pictures for the photo challenges. I am absolutely stumped this time around!
I've never heard of Stick Man but Little Man reading his book sounds so cute! :)

    1. L classes sitting through a musical as a form of torture. We agree to differ on the subject!

I still have a lot of photos to find and some of the ones I took this time aren't good enough to use ... unless I get desperate!

I'm not familiar with the Stick Man stories but Little Man obviously loves them. He looks so cute as he's babbling through his version of the story.

  7. I really enjoyed those heritage Open Days when I was home with Mum. We saw some really interesting places that we wouldn't have got to see otherwise.

    1. It's always a pleasant surprise to see what's on your doorstep that you didn't know about. This year there's the opportunity to go into the bell tower of the parish church so I am hoping to be able to do that.
