M will be here this morning to tidy the garden for me. I want to discuss the design for the pergola with her, just to check whether she thinks there will be enough trellis as we plan to grow a white potato vine on it ... currently there is no trellis across the top (the bit that connects the uprights to the garage wall) and I'm thinking there should be. There's not that much to do this time so we should have enough time to chat about this year's successes and what to change or take forward to next year.

The King is in Wales today so I want to watch that but probably on catch up as I think the live transmission is when M is here. I'd mistakenly thought they were all having a bit of a rest day yesterday but it seems I was wrong as the Prince and Princess of Wales were in Sandringham, the Princess Royal was in Glasgow, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex were in Manchester - they must all be absolutely exhausted. Grief is tiring enough in itself without all the travelling, meeting and greeting, and ceremonies that they are being called on to do ... my heart goes out to them.

I heard back from the U3A. It seems that, even though their website says that the Italian group is looking for new members, they're not! So, a little frustrating and a disappointment that could have been avoided if they'd kept their website up to date ... it's back to the drawing board and the search for a conversation group continues.

I may have a visitor this afternoon. H has been staying with her Mum and will call in to see me before she returns home if time permits. I haven't seen her for a while so it'll be lovely if she can find the time ... I've tempted her with a chicken curry if she gets here!

  1. I think for the senior Royals it is honouring The Queen with their keeping up with Royal engagement; service always. I was glad to hear that The King took a day of rest & reflection. I was very impressed with The Queen Consort's ability to defuse & then deflective the leaking pen situation. If anything, she does know that man. I am sure you & M will recount many successes in the garden this season.

    1. I think they could all do with some rest. M is please with how the garden looked this year. We've made good progress towards what I've been imagining and have ideas for the next stage, which'll be next year now.

  2. The royals must be exhausted - grief, ceremony and all that travelling! So sorry to hear about the Italian group. On the other hand, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the trellis.

    1. I think the Royals have been amazing. I've sort of given up on the Italian conversation group for now ... one will become known to me when the time is right! I'll do a garden update post next week and mention a couple of the ideas for the trellis/pergola.

  3. Oh, that's a shame about the Italian conversation group not needing new members! I hope you are able to find another group. Hope you've had a good day with discussing garden matters with M and perhaps a visit from H.

    1. It's frustrating about the Italian conversation group, more so because their website clearly mentioned that new members were welcome in that group. I've given up on the idea for now and am looking for other things. I'll find a conversation group when I'm no longer looking for one ... one will turn up somehow.

Yes I enjoyed chatting with M about the garden thanks, but didn't see H yesterday. She ran out of time and came today (Saturday) for lunch instead.

  4. I watched some of the television coverage of the King's visit to Wales. He took his own pen to Wales this time and it was good to hear hm speaking Welsh. It must be a very stressful time for them, you can see the grief on the faces of the family, Did you see the Queen's four children at the vigil last evening? What a shame about the Italian group for you.

    1. It was great to hear the King speaking in Welsh. They are all looking very strained but holding up well, all things considered. Yes, I saw the Queen's children at the vigil, I think it's the turn of the eight grandchildren either today or tomorrow.

I've decided the Italian group isn't meant to be at the moment so am looking for different groups to join. An Italian group will become known when the time is right.
